Last scheduled meeting, with Maryland Terrapins leading 1-0. It won at home on Jan. 14 64-60. Anthony Cowan Jr. hit a key 3-pointer with 44 seconds left, and the Terps survived after blowing a 21-point lead in the second half. Maryland led 38-17 with 17:47 remaining before the Badgers roared back to take a 60-59 lead with 2:01 to go. Cowan turned it around with his jumper, and the Terps held on after Wisconsin’s Nate Reuvers missed two 3-pointers in the final 33 seconds. Maryland made only five baskets after intermission and two over the final 17 minutes. At the free throw line, the Terps were 24 for 29 compared 3 for 6 for the Badgers.

The Terps are off a fairly easily 70-52 win over Northwestern. Bruno Fernando had 22 points and 10 rebounds, freshman Jalen Smith scored 14 points and No. 21 Maryland ended a two-game skid. The Terrapins (17-5, 8-3 Big Ten) expanded 11-point halftime lead to 53-30 with 10 minutes left and coasted to the finish.
It was the third straight double-double and 13th of the season for Fernando, a 6-foot-10 sophomore who helped Maryland finish with a 44-28 rebounding advantage. Fernando is one of 10 players in program history to record at least 13 double-doubles in a season (Joe Smith and Tom McMillen did it multiple times).
Fernando currently leads the Big Ten Conference (4th nationally) in double-doubles (13) and ranks second in rebounds/g (10.3) and blocks/g (2.0). He also ranks sixth nationally (1st B1G) in FG Pct. (.665). The Terps remain one of the best rebounding teams in the nation, ranking third in the country in rebound margin (+10.3).
Maryland’s stifling defense held the Wildcats to just 31-percent shooting. It was the worst shooting percentage for a conference opponent since the Terps held Nebraska to 30.5-percent shooting on March 8, 2015.
The Terrapins are looking for their third ranked win of the season, which would match the most in a season since 2014-15. Maryland previously defeated #24 Nebraska and #22 Indiana earlier this year in consecutive home games.
Maryland has won two of its last three meetings against Wisconsin, and holds a 4-3 advantage in the series since joining the Big Ten in 2014-15. This marks Maryland’s third trip to the Kohl Center since joining the Big Ten Conference, with its lone win coming in the 2015-16 season.
