Season Series
Vols won at Missouri on Jan. 8, 87-63. Kyle Alexander scored 14 points and grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds. Grant Williams entered as the conference’s leading scorer at 19.9 points per game, but he scored just four before fouling out. Jordan Bowden came off the bench and scored 20 points for the second straight game, Jordan Bone added 17 points and Admiral Schofield finished with 16 points and nine rebounds.
Freshman guard Xavier Pinson scored 14 points and Jordan Geist had 12 first-half points for Missouri. Jeremiah Tilmon and Mark Smith — two of Missouri’s top three scorers — sat most of the first half with foul trouble.

The Tigers ended a three-game skid with a 77-67 home win over Vandy on Saturday. Missouri (11-9, 2-6 Southeastern Conference) set the tone on offense in the first half, shooting 48.4 percent from the field. Tilmon and three Missouri freshmen – Torrence Watson, Javon Pickett, and Xavier Pinson — led the charge, scoring 29 of the Tigers’ 37 first-half points. Vanderbilt struggled in the first half, shooting just 34.8 percent and missing all 10 of its 3-point attempts. The Tigers entered the contest averaging 17 turnovers per game in conference play. But Missouri gave the ball up just nine times against Vanderbilt.
Sophomore forward Jeremiah Tilmon dominated the ‘Dores down low, going for 19 points and eight rebounds, helping Mizzou beat Vandy on the boards 37-26. Tilmon has now scored 15+ points in his last three games, the first time he has done so in his career. Tilmon has now scored in double figures 12 times this season. Mizzou improved to 9-3 when he scores 10+ points.
Jordan Geist slashed 16/5/6, marking the third time this season the senior guard has put up at least 15 points, five assists, and five rebounds. He had no such performances before this season. Javon Pickett scored 12 points and pulled down five rebounds, tying his career high.
Geist is one of four players in the SEC to rank in the Top 20 in scoring (13.6 PPG) and Top 10 in assists (3.4) during league play alongside Tremont Waters, Terence Davis, and Jared Harper. Mizzou has held opponents to 69 or fewer points 31 times in the Cuonzo Martin era, which amounts to 59.6 percent of the games with him at the helm. When the Tigers have done so this season, they are 10-1.
Mizzou is attacking the glass this season. It has outrebounded its opponent 13 times in 19 games this season. The Tigers have done that 35 times in 52 games during the Martin era. Why Bet on Tennessee?
The Vols set a school record with their 16th straight win Saturday, 93-76 at Texas A&M. The Volunteers (20-1, 8-0 SEC) surpassed the 15-game streak they had from February 1915 to January 1917 and are off to their best start in conference play since also going 8-0 in 1981-82. Tennessee was clinging to a two-point lead midway through the second half before a 5-0 run, capped by a 3-pointer from Jordan Bowden, made it 70-63.
The Vols had one of their best offensive performances of the season in shooting 65 percent from the field, including a 74 percent (31-of-42) mark on two-point field-goal attempts. Tennessee also assisted on a season-high 28 baskets in the game. Bone had another impressive outing at the point with 18 points on 7-of-7 shooting from the floor with 10 assists. He became just the third Vol ever to have three points/assists double-doubles in a season, joining Tyrone Beaman (1982-83) and Rodney Woods (1974-75).
Grant Williams also finished with a double-double, posting a game-high 22 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks. It was his fifth of the season and marked the first game since 2013-14 that two Vols had a double-double in the same game (Jarnell Stokes and Jeronne Maymon vs. UMass [3/21/14].
Bone is one of 10 players on the 2019 Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award watch list, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Monday. He ranks sixth in the country and leads the SEC in assist/turnover ratio (3.6) and 10th/1st in assists per game (6.6 apg) on the season. His career assist/turnover ratio stands at 2.86 (program record is 2.20 by Jon Higgins).
Bone has nearly doubled his scoring production this season at 13.6 ppg while shooting a 47-percent clip from the field. He’s scored double-digits in 16 games and boasts seven performances with at least 15 points and five assists. His 139 assists have directly led to 323 points for the Vols. If you add that to his 285 points scored, he has accounted for 33 percent (608 of 1820) of UT’s scoring this season.
