Odds To Win The 2017 College Basketball Championship
With conference play kicking off all over the country last week, college basketball bettors everywhere need to know which teams are being viewed as legitimate national championship title contenders and which ones are likely nothing more than pretenders at best. Thanks to this expert look at the updated odds to win the 2017 NCA championship, you’re going to have a good idea of just of oddsmakers feel about the majority of legitimate contenders in the chase for this year’s national championship. The Duke Blue Devils have suddenly moved past the Kentucky Wildcats as the prohibitive favorite to win the national championship, even though Coach K’s ballclub is currently sitting in ninth place in the ultra-competitive ACC with an uninspiring 2-3 mark in conference play. Making matters worse is the fact that Duke will be without head coach Mike Krzyzewski for the next month following a back surgery last week.
The Kentucky Wildcats have dropped to second on the futures odds board despite owning a 15-2 record that is two losses better than Duke’s 14-4 mark. Once again, John Calipari’s squad is loaded with a handful of likely one-and-done NBA lottery picks, which gives the Cats the chance to win almost every year based solely on their talent level.
The UCLA Bruins (18-1) are tied with the Wildcats as the third favorite on the board at 7/1 and they’re definitely deserving of their lofty expectations, seeing as how they have a boatload of high-flying talent and the nation’s best point guard in freshman Lonzo Ball. Following the top three favorites are the Kansas Jayhawks (17-1) and defending national champion Villanova Wildcats (18-1) who are both offering 10/1 odds to win it all. In the case of the Jayhawks, I haven’t been overly impressed with the fact that their best player is a so-so combo guard in Frank Mason, but in the case of the Wildcats, I’m thinking they’ve got a great shot to win consecutive national titles for head coach Jay Wright with two sure-fire NBA players leading them in guard Josh Hart and sweet-shooting forward Kris Jenkins.
Last but not least, the North Carolina (17-3) will undoubtedly have a shot to make a deep run come March Madness tourney time. The Tar Heels have size, speed, quality shooters and some quality depth that looks like it will allow them to challenge anyone this season after falling just short against Villanova a year ago.
