Senior forward Jeriah Horne scored a season-high 24 points for Colorado, but missed an open 3-pointer with seven seconds left that could have tied the game. Junior forward Evan Battey added 18 points, but senior point guard and leading scorer, McKinley Wright IV was held to 12 points. Colorado coach Tad Boyle called it one of his more disappointing losses.
“The offense was not the issue. Even though it wasn’t great it wasn’t the issue,” Boyle said. “The issue was on the other end of the floor, which is something we hang our hat on, but there was no hook tonight.”
Washington State has lost four straight and five of six including a 71-56 home loss against Utah on Thursday night. Sophomore guard Noah Williams scored a team-high 17 points while freshman center Efe Abogidi added 12 points, but those were the only two Cougars to reach double figures in scoring in the loss. Oregon State has won two straight and comes into this matchup fresh off a narrow 58-56 home win over USC on Tuesday night. Sophomore guard Jarod Lucas and senior backcourt mate Ethan Thompson scored 13 points apiece to help Oregon State snap the Trojans’ six-game winning streak.
Oregon has won nine of its last 10 games including a 79-73 road win over Utah in their last game on Jan. 9. Trailing by 10 points at the break, Oregon picked up its intensity in the second half to outscore Utah 46-30 to get the win. Senior guard Chris Duarte scored a team-high 25 points and Eric Williams Jr. added 19 to lift the Ducks to the win.
“We needed a good start to the half after finishing the first half so poorly,” Oregon coach Dana Altman said. “We needed something good to get our heads up and get guys on the same page.”
