Race To March Madness Top Games Left In The Season

With just one week remaining in the 2016-17 NCAA college basketball regular season, the race to March Madness is clearly on and popping. However, before we jump the gun and get to March Madness, there are still some meaningful games taking place this week, prior to conference championship play. Let’s take a look at the most meaningful college basketball point spreads and matchups on the schedule.

Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 7:00 PM ET on ESPN

No. 15 Florida State (23-6) at No. 17 Duke (22-7) The Seminoles will look to hand the Blue Devils their second loss of the season after pounding Duke 88-66 almost two months ago. The athletic Seminoles however are just 3-5 on the road and will face a Blue Devils team that has gone 14-1 at home.

Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 7:00 PM ET on ESPN2

Indiana (16-13) at No. 16 Purdue (23-6) Purdue looks to both, hold on to their one-game lead over Purdue and clinch a share of first place tonight at home. With a win over Indiana, Purdue would lock up a share of its first Big Ten title since 2010. This game will give you a great opportunity to see one of the nation’s top players, Purdue power forward Caleb Swanigan.

Wednesday, March 1 at 8:00 PM ET

VCU (23-6) at Dayton (23-5) The Rams and Flyers enter this week tied atop the Atlantic 10 at 12-2 apiece. This matchup will almost surely be for the A-10 title, and by now, everyone knows these two hoops programs can be dangerous once March Madness rolls around.

Friday, March 3 at 7:00 PM ET

No. 24 Iowa State (19-9) at No. 10 West Virginia (23-7) This matchup won’ be for a conference crown,  but it is a great preview of two top 20 teams that both average over 80.0 points per game and could do some damage in the annual March Madness national championship tournament.

Saturday, March 4 at 2:00 PM ET

No. 19 Notre Dame (22-7) at No. 8 Louisville (23-6) Two legitimate ACC national championship hopefuls will square off in a reveling matchup when the Louisville Cardinals host the Fighting Irish on Saturday afternoon.

Saturday, March 4 at 4:00 PM ET

No. 25 Miami (20-9) at No. 15 Florida State (23-6) I know we’re used to talking about these schools meeting in what is normally a huge football matchup, but these two ACC rivals both have legitimate national championship hopes – and Florida State is one of my top picks to make a deep tourney run.

Saturday, March 4 at 8:15 PM ET on ESPN

No. 14 Duke (22-7) and No. 5 North Carolina (25-6) North Carolina has already won a share of the ACC title, but this in-state rivalry of elite college hoops programs is one of the best in all of sports. Duke has dropped two in a row in falling to Syracuse and Miami, Carolina was held to an unimaginable 43 points in Monday’s loss to Virginia. College basketball’s best rivalry is the perfect start to March Madness. Last but not least, the Ohio Valley title game is Saturday. The Missouri Valley, Atlantic Sun and Big South conferences will crown their champions on Sunday.
