Top College Basketball Games Of The Week (Feb. 6th – 10th)

Written by on February 6, 2017

After the rather breathless finish to the Super Bowl on Sunday, there are probably some folks who believe that we reached the pinnacle of the sports season, but let’s not forget that the magic that is March Madness predictions are right around the corner. College basketball season is heading into the final month of the regular season, and that means that there are a lot of big games on tap over the next few weeks. The action is going to be coming thick and fast, and while narrowing the schedule down to just a handful of great games is tough, I think the ones we have chosen for this week should definitely be on your viewing calendar.

In Depth Analysis On The Top College Basketball Games Of The Week (Feb. 6th – 10th)

Louisville Cardinals at Virginia Cavaliers – Monday

The Cardinals recently fell to a tough loss at the hands of the Florida State Seminoles, but have managed to bounce back with 3 straight wins heading into this week. That should be good enough to have them at least maintain their current #6 seeding. They will have another tough game on their hands on Monday night, though, against a Virginia Cavaliers team that may see their stock fall with the next rankings release after losing to Syracuse in their last outing. The Cavs have now lost 2 of 3, and may be just a little fragile.

North Carolina Tar Heels at Duke Blue Devils – Thursday

North Carolina rebounded from a tough loss to Miami by winning both of their games last week, although neither victory was what anyone would call convincing. The Tar Heels only have a single game on their schedule for this week, but it’s a tough one versus Duke. The Blue Devils appear to be in recovery mode, and have come out of a rough patch that saw them lose 3 of 4. They are coming into this week on a modest 3-game winning streak, and can start to climb the rankings again with a win over ranked NC.

Oregon Ducks at UCLA Bruins – Thursday

There is a log jam at the top of the PAC-12 standings, with no less than 3 teams sharing the same 21-3 overall record. The Oregon Ducks and the UCLA Bruins are two of those teams, and they will go head to head in what should be a great game on Thursday night. The Ducks have had the better of things in conference play, and are 10-1 so far. The Bruins are 8-3 in PAC-12 play, and will be looking for some revenge for the 89-87 loss they took at the hands of Oregon earlier in the season.

Gonzaga Bulldogs at Saint Mary’s Gaels – Friday

The top ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs made it through another week without taking a loss, and are now a perfect 24-0 on the season. They have not really been seriously threatened of late, but may see that change when they hit the road to face a very talented Saint Mary’s team on Friday night. The Gaels are 21-2 on the season, with one of those losses coming in a road game versus Gonzaga. This one should be a little more competitive with the Gaels having home court advantage.
