Written by on January 11, 2017

The excitement that is March Madness is still a couple of months away, but we have seen enough of the season to get a handle on which teams are likely to be among the favorites when the tournament rolls around. There are 4 or 5 teams that are among the elite right now, and they are all programs that we are used to seeing in this position. There is still a lot of basketball to be played, but let’s look at a few teams that are probably going to still be among the top March Madness online betting favorites once the tournament gets underway.

In Depth Analysis On The Top March Madness Betting Favorites

UCLA Bruins

This has been a big rebound year for a program that wasn’t even in the tournament last season. They served a notice of intent earlier in the season when they took down Kentucky, who just happened to be ranked #1 at that time. The UCLA Bruins have put together a 16-1 record to this point in the season, with their lone loss coming at the hands of ranked Oregon. UCLA has not won a National Championship since 1995, and their last two March Madness appearances saw them bounced in the Regional Semi-Finals.

Duke Blue Devils

If you can count on anything in college basketball, it’s that Duke will be sitting among the favorites to win it all. The Blue Devils have taken a pair of losses already this season, but this always seems to be a team built for March Madness. They last hoisted the crown in 2015, and have reached the Final Four in 18 of their 47 tournament appearances. This is a team that can never be counted out under Coach K, even when it seems as though they are having a down year.

Kentucky Wildcats

At 13-2, the Wildcats are currently ranked #6 in the nation, but this is another team that you just know is always going to be there or thereabouts. Last season was a huge disappointment, as they lost to Indiana in the second round, but this is a team that has been in the big game twice in the last 5 years. They have appeared in the tournament 56 times, and have gone to the Final Four in 17 of those appearances.

Kansas Jayhawks

After a few seasons of early round exits, the Kansas Jayhawks took a big step forward last year, losing to Villanova in the Regional Final. They look primed to go a little deeper this season, and are currently sitting ranked #2 in the country with a 14-1 record. The Jayhawks are another team that always seem to be in the mix, and they have won it all 3 different times, with the latest coming in 2008.

North Carolina Tar Heels

The Tar Heels are a team totally stacked with talent this season, but at 14-3, they have been a little underwhelming at times. They appear to be getting on a little bit of a roll now, though, which could set them up nicely for the next couple of months. Their last tournament win came in 2009, but this is a team with a history, as they have reached the Final Four 19 times in 47 attempts.
