I’m not saying the Lumberjacks are going to pull the upset here, but they are usually a very good mid-major program from the Southland Conference that often reaches the NCAA Tournament. Head coach Kyle Keller is in his fourth season since taking over for current Illinois head coach Brad Underwood. SFA was picked to finish fourth the Southland Conference Preseason Poll.
SFA is 4-1 as it comes off a 69-57 loss at Rutgers last Wednesday. Rutgers was up 62-49 in the second half before SFA went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Kevon Harris’ jumper, to shrink the deficit to 62-55 with 1:37 to go in the contest. However, the Lumberjacks would get no closer.
Harris, John Comeaux and Gavin Kensmil combined to score 43 of SFA’s 57 total points. Harris led the ‘Jacks with 18 points and four steals. Kensmil added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds and Comeaux chipped in as well with 14 points. SFA turned 19 turnovers into 21 points on the offensive end.
Why Duke should be your College Basketball Betting pick?Duke improved to 6-0 with Friday’s 81-73 win over Georgetown to win the 2K Empire Classic in New York City. The win gave Coach Mike Krzyzewski another slice of history. Krzyzewski is now 218-34 when the Blue Devils hold the top spot in the AP poll. Those are the most wins by any head coach with his team ranked No. 1. Hall of Famer John Wooden went 217-11 while UCLA was No. 1 during his run there. Duke has started the season 6-0 or better in two of the last three seasons, and 14 times since 2000-01.
Freshman Vernon Carey Jr., recorded his fourth consecutive double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds on 8-of-14 shooting from the field. Carey was named the Empire Classic Most Valuable Player.
In the program’s history, this marks the 144th week that Duke has been ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press Poll – the most weeks ranked No. 1 all-time. Under Coach K, Duke has played more games as a No. 1 team (252) than as an unranked team (144). The Blue Devils have also been ranked in the top 10 at least once in 24 consecutive seasons — the longest active streak nationally.
No. 11 Oregon vs. No. 13 Seton Hall
- When: Wednesday, 9:30 PM ET
- Live Stream: WatchESPN
This is from the Battle 4 Atlantis event in the Bahamas. This will be only the second-ever meeting between the Pirates and Ducks. In the 2000 NCAA Tournament first round in Buffalo, N.Y., Shaheen Holloway drove the length of the court to connect on a layup with 1.9 seconds remaining in overtime as The Hall topped Oregon to advance to the second round. The Pirates went on to defeat Temple in the second round to account for the program’s last NCAA Sweet 16 appearance.
Oregon already has played a No. 13 team once this season, beating then-No. 13 Memphis 82-74 on Nov. 12. That marked the first time in 23 years that Oregon defeated a non-conference opponent ranked 13th or higher during the regular season. The last time it had happened was Dec. 7, 1996, when the Ducks defeated No. 13 Fresno State 87-75 at McArthur Court. There is only one other occasion when Oregon defeated a non-conference team ranked higher than 13th during the regular season. The Ducks defeated No. 10 Providence 86-73 in Eugene on Jan. 4, 1975.
Ducks numbersThe Ducks improved to 5-0 with Friday’s 78-66 win over Houston. Anthony Mathis led the Ducks with 18 points on 5-of-9 shooting from three-point range. Payton Pritchard added 16 points and five assists. Pritchard passed Joseph Young (1,384 points/2013-15) and Luke Ridnour (1,399/2000-03) to move into 16th in UO career scoring with 1,400 points. Pritchard is the only player ranked in the Pac-12’s top five in scoring (20.3 ppg) and assists (5.8 apg).
The Ducks are in the midst of a unique stretch of four non-conference games against teams that were picked first or second in their respective preseason polls. That run began with Memphis (tie-1st, American Athletic) and includes UT Arlington (2nd, Sun Belt), Houston (tie-1st, American Athletic) and Seton Hall (1st, Big East).
Why Seton Hall should be your College Basketball Betting pick?Seton Hall is 4-1 following Saturday’s 87-51 rout of Florida A&M. With starter Sandro Mamukelashvili in a slump, sophomore Jared Rhoden got major minutes at the power forward spot and chalked up his first career double-double. Rhoden finished with 10 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, two steals and a team-high plus/minus of 29. All-American candidate Myles Powell had 23 points. Powell now has four 20-point games this season. He also had five rebounds, two assists and a block.
He is only 224 points away from becoming the fifth Pirate to score 2,000 career points, and he’s only 718 points from tying Terry Dehere for the all-time record.
The Hall is now 86-11 (.887) in its last 97 games when leading by at least seven points. The Pirates held an opponent under 30 percent shooting for the first time since Feb. 25, 2016 vs. Providence. Seton Hall is now 159-54 all-time when nationally ranked by the Associated Press and 11-2 all-time when specifically ranked No. 13.
