We’re less than a week away from the start of the 2020-21 college basketball season! The SEC is consistently among the top five basketball conferences in the country, and this season is no exception. Let’s preview some of the top teams for the upcoming season in the SEC so you can get your bets set down against their College Basketball odds.
College Basketball Betting Analysis of the 2020 SEC
Class of the Conference
- Tennesse Volunteers
Even though they struggled last season, the Volunteers are returning four of their five starters. Combine that with two five-star recruits, and you have a group that could very well win the SEC.
Tennessee will have a very balanced team, and with a loaded class of incoming freshmen, this team should have the ability and the firepower to contest for the SEC title. Rick Barnes is an excellent coach, and he should be able to fit the pieces together.
- Kentucky Wildcats
It’s going to be another typical season for the Wildcats. Gone are their top six scorers who either were out of eligibility or entered the NBA Draft early.
John Calipari has loaded up on elite freshmen once again, and by the end of the season, this group should be one of the top teams in the conference. This top-ranked class includes DJ Boston and Terrence Clarke, and Wake Forest transfer Olivier Sarr is also eligible to play.
They’ll start slow, but the Wildcats will be there at the end.
- LSU Tigers
So far, Will Wade has escaped NCAA sanctions and has kept his job. He’s been bringing in talented players, and this group should contend for the conference championship. He’s trying to run his program much like Kentucky does, and they’re gaining ground.
- Florida Gators
Mike White returns six of his top eight scorers from last year’s squad that more than likely would’ve made the NCAA Tournament. Many are predicting Keyontae Johnson to be the Player of the Year in the conference. If some of last year’s freshmen that were disappointments can play up to their capabilities, then the Gators have a legitimate shot at winning the SEC.
Best of the Rest
- Arkansas Razorbacks
Eric Musselman has brought the Razorbacks program back to prominence. Even though they lost Isaiah Joe to the NBA Draft among six of their top seven scorers from last year, Musselman still has a nice group. By getting numerous transfers to come to Arkansas and by bringing in a very strong recruiting class, the Razorbacks could be a dark-horse contender for the championship.
- Alabama Crimson Tide
Nate Oats has done a great job at Alabama. He’s returning four of his top six scorers, but with a couple of heralded transfers, and a nice recruiting class, Oats should have the Tide in the upper tier of the SEC.
- Auburn Tigers
Bruce Pearl has some work to do. After losing all five starters, it would seem that Auburn would take a huge hit. Well, not so fast.
Pearl has brought in a top-10 recruiting class led by five-star point guard Sharife Cooper. By the end of the season, this team should be playing well and will be a force to be reckoned with in conference play.
