5 Bold Predictions for the 2019 NCAA Tournament

Zion Williamson won’t play again for the Duke Blue Devils…

The unquestioned best player in college basketball, maybe, the best player to head to the NBA after his freshman year in the history of college hoops, suffered a Grade 1 knee injury in the Blue Devils’ loss to North Carolina.

Since that time everyone, including Kobe Bryant who didn’t even attend college, has had an opinion about whether Zion should shut it down or not. Bryant believes Zion should fulfill his commitment. Easy for Kobe to say, right? He went straight into the NBA from high school.

So, no, Kobe, Zion shouldn’t fulfill his commitment to help Coach K become even greater than he already is. Zion should stop playing, grab the money, and prepare for your future, your kids’ futures, and everything else that comes with life off the court.

…With Zion out, Duke won’t grab a 1-seed

The +200 chalk to win the NCAA Tournament won’t even get a 1-seed with Zion Williamson not on the court. Duke must traverse an exceptionally deep ACC Tournament that includes #2 Virginia, #5 North Carolina, and teams like Louisville, Syracuse, and ranked Virginia Tech who will have upset on their minds.

The Blue Devils will fall to a 2-seed after they bow out to one of the unranked ACC teams in the ACC Tournament.

Kentucky wins the SEC Tournament and gets a 1-seed

The Tennessee Volunteers had been the best team in the deep SEC all season long until about a month ago when the Kentucky Wildcats suddenly became the team to beat. Kentucky’s loaded in almost every way imaginable. Not only that, because they don’t have a single superstar ala Zion at Duke, Coach Cal has really gotten them to play team hoops.

Kentucky will win the SEC Tournament and march into the Big Dance a 1-seed.

The Selection Committee will Hose Houston and Give the Final 1-seed to Michigan State

The Spartans have 5 losses on the season. The Houston Cougars have a single loss. No worries if you’re a Sparty fan because after you win the Big Ten Regular Season and the Big Ten Tournament, the Selection Committee will shun the Cougars and give you the 1-seed.

Tom Izzo’s college basketball program is college hoops royalty while the Cougars are good for the first time in maybe their entire history this season.

Gonzaga will enter the NCAA Tournament the overall #1

Gonzaga won’t lose another game because they play in the awful West Coast Conference, but Mark Few’s a genius. The Zags battled Duke, Tennessee, North Carolina, Creighton, Texas A&M, Illinois, Washington, and Arizona before starting conference play. Duke, the Tar Heels, Washington, and Tennessee are all ranked. Duke, North Carolina, and Tennessee are ranked in the Top 10 and the Zags beat Duke, lost to UNC on the road, and lost by only 3 to Tennessee.

The Zags are the best team in the nation right now. They not only will get the overall 1-seed, they deserve the overall 1-seed.
