Being No. 1 in the country hasn’t worked out well for teams this season as all who have been in the top spot have lost at least once while No. 1. That is, except Baylor. The Bears visit Florida on Saturday in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge, and we think the Gators pull the historic upset on the Mybookie NCAAB odds.

Baylor vs Florida Last MeetingTeams are in different conferences so they don’t play that often. They did in 2018 also at Florida and the Gators won 81-60 led by a stellar performance from Chris Chiozza with 20 points, six rebounds and six assists. The Gators are 4-2 all-time in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge, including 3-1 under Mike White and 3-0 overall at home. Baylor is 5-1 in the Challenge.
Why Bet on Baylor?Baylor (16-1) won its 15th straight game on Monday, 61-57 over Oklahoma as the Bears won their first-ever home game as the No. 1 team in the country. The only other time the Bears reached No. 1 was in the poll released Jan. 9, 2017, and they lost by 21 the next night at No. 10 West Virginia.
The Sooners, down by 11 early after halftime, pulled to 59-57 on 3-pointers by Brady Manek and Austin Reaves, and had the ball when Kristian Doolittle got a steal against Baylor guard Jared Butler. But Reaves missed a potential go-ahead 3-pointer from the left corner in front of the Oklahoma bench with 6 seconds left.
Freddie Gillespie pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds. Gillespie finished with a double-double, the seventh of the season and eighth of his career, with 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor. His six made field goals tied a season high.
MaCio Teague led the Bears with 16 points, his 13th double-figure scoring game of the season. Teague has led the Bears in scoring in five games this season. Baylor is 13-0 this season when Teague scores in double figures. Davion Mitchell finished with 13 points, his eighth double-digit scoring game of the season.
The Bears are 6-0 in conference play for the first time since winning their first 10 Southwest Conference games in 1948, when they made the national championship game. Baylor has won 15 straight games, a mark that is tied for the second-longest in program history and is the nation’s second-longest active streak behind San Diego State (20). Baylor is 42-4 when leading at halftime over the last three seasons since 2017-18 (12-1 this season).

Why Bet on Florida?Florida (12-6) lost Tuesday at LSU, 84-82. Keyontae Johnson had 16 points for Florida and briefly believed he’d forced overtime with a layup on a backdoor cut as time expired. But officials determined on video review that the half-second on the clock when the ball was put in play ran out before the ball left Johnson’s hand.
Florida’s size and talent intermittently gave LSU fits. The Gators shot 50% and hit 11 3s. But untimely turnovers — 12 in all — and defensive breakdowns did them in. Florida allowed LSU to grab 15 offensive rebounds, leading to 11 second-chance points. LSU made just two of 14 3-point shots, but dominated the paint, outrebounding Florida 38-28 and outscoring the Gators 24-9 at the foul line.
Sophomore forward Emmitt Williams poured in 19 points in leading six teammates into double-figure scoring for the Gators. Andrew Nembhard finished with 15 points and 10 assists, while Johnson had 16 points and nine rebounds. Noah Locke had 16 points and his 14th straight game of multiple 3-pointers, going 4-for-7 from deep. He’s now hit 27 of 52 from distance over the last nine games (51.9 percent). The Gators as a team have shot better than 50 percent in each of their last three games, all in SEC play.
Some HistoryFrom the advent of the AP poll through 2015, Florida never played a regular season game vs. an AP #1 team other than Kentucky. Baylor will be the 4th different #1-ranked regular season opponent (Michigan State, Duke, Tennessee) in UF’s 5 seasons under Mike White.
Florida meets the AP #1 team for the 19th time in program history, holding a 2-16 record in those games. The Gators have never won a regular season game vs. the top-ranked team (0-13), with both previous victories coming in the NCAA Tournament (2000 vs. Duke, 2007 vs. Ohio State). This marks the 5th time the Gators will welcome the AP #1 team to Gainesville and the first vs. anyone other than Kentucky (1954, 1978, 2012, 2015).
