We always expect the ACC to be one of the powerhouse conferences in college basketball, and it is once again living up to that billing this season. You have 4 teams in the conference who have already amassed 15 or more wins on the season, and there are several who would be considered a good bet to make a deep run once March Madness predictions gets started. Notre Dame and North Carolina are setting a torrid pace at the top, but Louisville are sitting just off that pace, and have been excellent in putting together a 15-3 record that has taken them to #12 in the nation. It has not been the ideal start to conference play for the Cardinals, but you would have to think that they would be able to improve their record when they welcome in the Clemson Tigers on Thursday night. Conference play has been something of a nightmare for the Tigers so far, and has probably shown them just how much they need to improve to be able to keep up with the big programs in the ACC.

Why bet on the Clemson Tigers

Like I said in the opening of this piece, the Clemson Tigers have been delivered a rude awakening in conference play, going just 1-4 to get things rolling. They are on a 4-game losing skid coming into this one, with 3 of those losses coming against ranked opposition. All told, they have lost 4 games to ranked teams, and only have a single win, with that one coming against South Carolina, who are not anywhere near on a par with the top teams in the ACC. It has not been all doom and gloom on the road for the Tigers this season, though, as they have managed to put together a 2-2 record. They are also 2-2 ATS as a road team, and are 7-8 ATS overall.

Why bet on the Louisville Cardinals

Louisville lost 2 of 3 a couple of weeks ago, but have bounced back very nicely indeed, winning 3-straight, including a gritty 78-69 win over Duke in their last outing. The Cardinals ended up dropping a spot in the national rankings, but as the results show, that drop had more to do with the dominance of teams above them as opposed to anything that the Cardinals did or didn’t do. Louisville has just one home loss on the season, with that one coming against ranked Virginia, and they have not dropped a game to an unranked team yet. They are also a very solid 8-2 ATS on home court. It’s going to need to be a huge effort from Clemson to change that.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Cardinals have been very tough to beat in their own building, and it’s going to take a much better team than Clemson to sully that home court record. Comfortable win for the Cardinals in this one.
