Now that we’ve made it through the Christmas holiday, the college hoops season will be getting back into the full swing of things. While many teams gave their players a few days off for the holidays, now that Christmas is over, we’ll start seeing some great conference action. Players will be coming back to campus, and the conference seasons will be full steam ahead. Let’s take a look at our latest NCAAB update so you can keep betting against their College Basketball odds.
NCAA Basketball COVID-19 Update – December 28th Edition
Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic is still having an influence on the college basketball season. Although we’re seeing fewer games cancelled, we’re still having to deal with the issues that the coronavirus is causing. The western part of the country has been hit hard, as the UC-Davis vs. Cal-Bakersfield, Long Beach State vs. UC-Riverside, CSU-Northridge vs. CSU-Fullerton, and Cal-Poly vs. Hawaii games were all cancelled due to issues with the virus. That’s still too many games, but the college basketball world seems to be making strides in the right direction.
On Monday, December 28th, we’re going to see a schedule that only has three top-25 teams in action. In the first game of the night, the #9 Wisconsin Badgers host the Maryland Terrapins. Wisconsin is coming off of a huge road win at Michigan State on Christmas Day. Wisconsin is one of the best teams in the country when it comes to turnovers, as they have turned the ball over very few times. The Badgers are also 7-0 in their last seven home games. Maryland is in a retooling year, so they may take some lumps this season.
The #12 Michigan State Spartans will travel to “The Barn” in Minnesota. Minnesota is coming off of a huge home upset win over the Iowa Hawkeyes on Christmas night. The Barn is always a tough place to play, so Minnesota always has a huge home court advantage, even without fans in the stands. Michigan State has started conference play 0-2. Tom Izzo’s squad has lost to Northwestern and Wisconsin, and they really can’t afford to start the Big 10 season with three straight losses. We’ll see if Izzo can get his Spartans back on the winning track.
The final game involving a ranked team will see the #1 team in the nation in action, as the Gonzaga Bulldogs will welcome Northern Arizona to Spokane. Gonzaga is 7-0 and have been dominant. On Saturday, Gonzaga dominated the #16 Virginia Cavaliers, further cementing their grip on the #1 spot. Gonzaga has arguably the most talented roster in college basketball. Led by Drew Timme, Corey Kispert, and freshman sensation Jalen Suggs, the Zags are averaging 95 points per contest. That’s bad news for Northern Arizona, as they have only one victory on the season, and bring one of the nation’s worst defenses to Spokane. Northern Arizona is giving up nearly 80 points per game, so this should be good news for a Zags team that hasn’t seemed to have an issue scoring points.
In other action, we’ll see a ton of games from the Missouri Valley Conference. We’ll also see some PAC-12 action, as Colorado will travel to Tuscon to take on the Arizona Wildcats.
