Why bet on the Duke Blue Devils

Duke (24-10, 11-7) came into the Tournament as the defending champion, but they quickly found out that repeating is not going to be easy. They had to fight every inch of the way against a plucky UNC Wilmington team in the round of 64, and they may well have been in real trouble were it not for a solid performance in the second half. Given that they are going to have to face better teams as the Tournament goes on, Duke are going to have to make sure that they don’t repeat the sloppy performance they put in during the first half of their opening game. The better teams will take advantage of that, and the Blue Devils won’t be able to find a way back. Duke are averaging 81.5 PPG, and are giving up 72.1 PPG.

Why bet on the Yale Bulldogs

Yale (23-6, 13-1) delivered one of the big surprises of the round of 64 when they took out #5 Baylor by a score of 79-75. The win by the Bulldogs was one that is going to give them a ton of confidence, and they have to be looking at how Duke played in the opening round and see a team that might well be there for the taking. If Yale are to get the win here, they are going to have to find a way to shut down Brandon Ingram, as he is the one player on Duke that can control the flow of the game. Getting out to a fast start, and getting Ingram in foul trouble are the keys to Yale moving on. The Bulldogs are averaging 75.2 PPG, and are giving up 63.1 PPG.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Beating one higher ranked team in the Tournament is tough, but doing it twice in a row is usually asking a little too much. Yale should keep this one close, but I think they will eventually come up a little short. Duke Blue Devils 72 Yale Bulldogs 65
