Why Bet on Miami?

The Canes (20-8) have followed a three-game losing streak with back-to-back wins. It was 79-78 over Boston College on Saturday. Freshman Lonnie Walker IV’s 3-point field goal with 2.4 seconds remaining was the winner. Walker’s 3-pointer capped a 26-11 run in the game’s final six minutes. The shot also gave Miami its first lead in over 17 minutes of play during the second half. With the win, Miami collected its 20th win on the year. The Hurricanes have now won 20 games in six of the last seven seasons under head coach Jim Larrañaga. The win also snapped Miami’s two-game home losing streak.  Miami held a commanding 39-27 advantage on the glass and posted a 27-3 advantage in bench scoring. With under two minutes to go in the game, Miami trailed by nine (73-64) and appeared to be facing a third straight loss at home.Larrañaga is the only coach in program history with six 20-win seasons. Miami had six 20-win seasons from 1985 (the program’s relaunch) to 1981. The Canes are now 4-0 in one-possession games in 2017-18.Star sophomore guard Bruce Brown has been out for a while following foot surgery. He’s not playing here and won’t play in the ACC tournament, either. Brown’s availability for the start of the NCAA tournament on March 13 is unlikely. He underwent surgery on Feb. 1, and at the time was expected to be sidelined for about six weeks. He’s averaging 11.4 points and shooting 42 percent, including 27 percent from 3-point range.
