Michigan State Spartans

This team closed out the regular season with 11 straight wins, adding another in the Big 10 tournament before finally losing to Michigan, another team we will be looking at on this list. Michigan State has been up around the top all season long but looked to be on the slide after losing 2 out of 3 in the middle of the season. They put together their impressive run right after those losses, proving that they are a team with grit as well as obvious talent.

Michigan Wolverines

Michigan had to sit back and watch as their in-state rivals won the regular season conference crown, but a win over the Purdue Boilermakers gave the Wolverines the conference championship, not to mention a win streak that has now been extended to 9 games. If I had to pick just one team to tag as the most dangerous heading into the tournament, it might well be the Michigan Wolverines.

Cincinnati Bearcats

Winning the regular season American Conference crown was a fine accomplishment by this team, but they are now just a game away from winning in the postseason tournament, too. Cincinnati had back to back losses coming down the stretch, but they found a way to shake that off and put together 4 straight wins. This team is giving up just 57.3 PPG this season, which is something you need to pay attention to if you believe that defense wins championships.

Tennessee Volunteers

With a loss to Georgia late in the season, it looked as though Tennessee had lost their shot at the regular season SEC crown, but they rebounded from that defeat to win 4 straight and share the crown with Auburn. They now have a bye in the SEC tournament and will play on Friday. A good performance there could put them in very good shape heading into the tournament.

Arizona Wildcats

It’s easy to forget that this team was considered to be among the favorites to win it all when the season began. While the eventual outcome may have been viewed as a bit of a disappointment, the Wildcats closed things out quite nicely, winning 5 of their last 6 games. They won the Pac-12 regular season championship and will try to follow that up with a win in the conference tournament. Do not sleep on this very talented team.

Nevada Wolf Pack

A loss on the final day of the regular season is sure to be disappointing, but this is still a team that won the Mountain West in rather comfortable fashion. Nevada is not a team that are going to go out and win a National Championship, but they are a group that is capable of making a run into the Sweet Sixteen or Elite Eight.
