Villanova vs. St. John’s Game and NCAAB Betting Preview

Written by on January 29, 2016

There are a number of great conferences in the NCAA, and it can be tough to figure out which one to focus on. The coming action for this weekend offers plenty of betting opportunities, but if you haven’t got the chance to review the calendar and college basketball betting odds, then I would suggest that the Big East is definitely worth watching this year, as it is turning into a pretty competitive battle for supremacy.
The Wildcats recently got their 22-game Big East winning streak snapped in a 82-76 OT loss against Providence, although,  they will look to rebound from their first loss to a Big East team and maintain that lead on Sunday, January 31 when they head into Madison Square Garden to face the St. John’s Red Storm.

How to bet Villanova Wildcats Vs St. John’s Red Storm

This is, in the eyes of many, sure to be a totally lopsided affair, but the trick when betting is trying to figure out just how one-sided things are going to get. Villanova have been winning a lot, but they are not always doing so in dominant fashion. Does that mean that St. John’s have a chance to cover the spread? The odds for this one will be up at MyBookie.ag as soon as they are made available.

Why bet on the Villanova Wildcats

Villanova (17-3, 7-1) had an opportunity to put some real pressure on the chasing pack in their last game, but they came up a little short in an 82-76 OT loss to Providence. It was a loss that was coming, as the Wildcats had not really been stamping their authority in the games leading up to that one. This loss may actually be the best thing that could have happened to this team, as it will show them that they cannot just hope to stroll through conference play. Villanova may well drop down a few spots from their current #6 seed with that loss, but they can start making things right again by getting a win over a much inferior opponent in the St. John’s Red Storm. The Wildcats are averaging 75.6 PPG, and are giving up just 61.7 PPG.

Why bet on the St. John’s Red Storm

There really isn’t much to like about the Red Storm (7-14, 0-8) right now, as they are coming into this one on an 11-game losing streak. The best that you can really hope for here is that they somehow find a way to cover the spread, which will probably only happen if Villanova starts to play a lot of bench guys in the second half. They have played 4 ranked teams during their losing skid, and lost those games by an average of 15 points. Their best showing in that bunch was an 8-point loss to a then #10 ranked Xavier. They could be in a good deal tougher here, and are likely to face a Villanova team that feels they have something to prove. The Red Storm are averaging 67.0 PPG, and are giving up 74.2 PPG.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I don’t think the Wildcats are going to be in any mood for showing mercy after their loss to Creighton in the last game. This is one that could get out of hand right from the get go. Villanova Wildcats 76 St. John’s Red Storm 56
