College Football Week 5 SU Betting Picks

Written by on September 25, 2018

It’s time for another round of SU picks in college football, with the focus this time around on the Week 5 match-ups. We will also have some ATS and O/U picks available for you guys, so be sure to keep your eyes open for those. With our SU picks, we are going to be looking at games that the bookies have close in terms of the spread, as that is where we will find some value. It would be easy to pick huge NCAAF odds favorites, but there is not a lot of money to be made there, so let’s get right to our picks for Week 5 of the 2018 college football season.

College Football Week 5 Top SU Picks

Purdue Boilermakers over Nebraska Cornhuskers

Scott Frost had a banner year as the coach of the UCF Knights last season, but he is quickly finding that life in the Power 5 is not quite as cozy. His Nebraska Cornhuskers are off to a brutal 0-3 start and have just not looked very good at all. They were absolutely destroyed by Michigan last weekend and appear to be running on empty when it comes to confidence. They will welcome in the 1-3 Purdue Boilermakers, who are a better team than their win/loss record suggests. They lost their opening 3 games by a combined 8 points before finally breaking through and getting a big win over Boston College in Week 4. I like Purdue to make it 2 in a row.

  • Nebraska is 0-5 SU in its last 5 games
  • Nebraska is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games when playing Purdue

Florida State Seminoles over Louisville Cardinals

It has been a rough start to life as the head coach of the Seminoles for Willie Taggart, with Florida State opening the season at 2-2. Their two wins have come against a much lesser opposition, so it may be a little surprising that they are in as a slight favorite to win this one on the road. Louisville is off to the same 2-2 start as the Seminoles, with both of their wins also coming against lesser foes. What I look at here is the Cardinals record ATS this season, as they have failed to cover even once. It is for that reason that I am taking the Seminoles SU.

  • Florida State is 17-8 SU in its last 25 games on the road
  • Louisville is 6-1 SU in its last 7 games at home

Washington State Cougars over Utah Utes

This is a matchup that the bookies essentially have down as a pick play, with the Utes in as a slight 1-point favorite on the road. I find that to be a little odd given that Utah has had little success in recent years when traveling to Washington State. Utah shouldn't be one of your College Football Week 5 Betting Picks. They are just 2-4 SU and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 trips there and are going against a Cougars team that is 4-0 ATS to start the season. While I absolutely believe that we are going to be in for a close one here, I am definitely leaning towards the Cougars at home as one of my SU picks for the week.

  • Washington State is 12-5 SU in its last 17 games
  • Washington State is 4-2 SU in its last 6 games when playing Utah

Kentucky Wildcats over South Carolina Gamecocks

The SEC East looks very much as though it is going to be once again ruled by the Georgia Bulldogs, especially when you consider that the chasing pack is essentially chewing one another up. The Kentucky Wildcats have a chance to emerge from that pack with a win over the Gamecocks, who have already lost a conference game to Georgia. A loss for South Carolina would all but take them out of the conference picture, while a win for Kentucky would put them right up there with the Dawgs. I like the Wildcats to keep their unbeaten season alive this weekend.
