NCAA Football Week 9 ATS Picks

Written by on October 23, 2018

It was another week of total madness in college football last weekend, with the biggest stunner being Ohio State getting absolutely clobbered by the Purdue Boilermakers. Over the past couple of weeks, we have seen several teams tumble down the rankings, making it a little trickier to handicap the upcoming games. Do we stick with the favorites or do we go the way of the underdog? We are already looking ahead to Week 9 Odds and have picked out 4 games that we like ATS. We will also have some SU and O/U picks coming, so be on the lookout for those.

NCAA Football Week 9 ATS Picks

Baylor Bears at West Virginia Mountaineers (-13 ½)

I had the Mountaineers in as one of my dark horse picks for the season, but a loss to Iowa State now means that the playoffs are likely a lost cause for West Virginia. The Big 12 Conference is still wide-open, though, and it’s another big conference battle this weekend, with the Baylor Bears heading to Morgantown as a 13 ½ point underdog.

Baylor have gone 5-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings with Virginia, but they are just 5-9-1 ATS in their last 15 games overall. They are also just 2-4-1 ATS this season. The Bears have been competitive against West Virginia in recent years, but I like the Mountaineers to win and cover here.

Latest NCAA Football Week 9 Betting Trends

  • Baylor is 2-4-1 ATS in its last 7 games
  • Baylor is 5-9-1 ATS in its last 15 games on the road
  • West Virginia is 4-2 ATS in its last 6 games
  • West Virginia is 1-5 ATS in its last 6 games when playing Baylor

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Virginia Tech Hokies (-3)

The Hokies started their season with a signature win over the Florida State Seminoles, but they saw all their hard work come undone with a stunning loss to Old Dominion in Week 3. The Hokies have won 2 of their 3 games played since then, although they have only managed to cover twice.

This week they will welcome in the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and a triple-option offense that is always tough to cover. The Jackets are just 3-4 on the season and have gone just 2-5 ATS. They have a good ATS record against Virginia Tech, but I think they are in trouble this weekend.

  • Virginia Tech is 11-5 ATS in its last 16 games at home

Wisconsin Badgers (-6 ½) at Northwestern Wildcats

You may have already noticed that I am following a bit of a trend this week, which is to take teams that have not necessarily done well ATS versus their Week 9 opponent. The Wisconsin Badgers are very much in that group, as they have gone just 1-7 ATS in their last 8 visits to Northwestern.

Wisconsin is one of the favorites for NCAA Football Week 9.

The big thing for me here is that this is one of the least talented Wildcats teams in recent memory, especially at home, where they are a mere 1-3 ATS this season. At 2-5 ATS, the Badgers are not much better, but I do like them to win by at least a TD here, covering in the process.

  • Wisconsin is 2-5 ATS in its last 7 games
  • Wisconsin is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games on the road
  • Northwestern is 10-5 ATS in its last 15 games
  • Northwestern is 7-1 ATS in its last 8 games when playing at home against Wisconsin

Kentucky Wildcats (+6 ½) at Missouri Tigers

A lot of folks have been picking against Kentucky all season long, yet here they are heading into Week 9 still having a shot at taking the SEC East crown. They still need a little help to achieve that goal, but they can help themselves a little this weekend with a win on the road in Missouri.

The problem here is that they are facing a Tigers team that has covered the spread in all 4 home games this season. Kentucky has already covered as the underdog 3 times this season and I think they can do it again on Saturday.
