Who has the better shot of winning the 2020 NCAA Division I Football Championship?

North Dakota State is like Alabama and Clemson. It doesn’t matter who they lose to graduation. They always come up big. However, this season things could be different. The Bison only return 3 starters on offense and 4 starters on defense. Normally, that wouldn’t be an issue, but North Dakota State also lost coach Chris Klieman to Kansas State.

We’re going to know how good James Madison is right away because they battle West Virginia on Saturday, August 31. The Dukes won the title in 2016. They finished runner-up in 2017. Last year, they bowed out in the second round. However, they return more players than the Bison do on both offense and defense. The favorite looks strong.

What team from +550 to +1600 odds has the best chance of winning the title?

At +550, Eastern Washington offers decent odds to win the championship. The Eagles most definitely have a shot after losing to North Dakota State in the championship game last season.

Jacksonville State is actually a better play than Eastern Washington, though. The Gamecocks lost 4 games last season because they turned the ball over. All they must do is protect the football this season to challenge the Dukes, Bison, and Eagles for the FCS Championship. State returns their quarterback, top wide receiver, most of their offensive line, and most of their defensive players. They should make waves in 2019.

Name a team from +2200 odds to +3300 odds that can win the championship

Wofford offers overlay odds at +3300. The Terriers lose only 6 starters on defense. They return 9 starters on offense. Wofford should be able to score with most any team in FCS. Although they weren’t bad in 2018, they didn’t play as well as they could.

It’s coach Josh Conklin’s second season with the program, which means his fellas will be better prepared to run his systems. At +3300, Wofford is an intriguing longshot.

Is there a football team at +4000 odds or higher with a shot at winning the 2020 NCAA Division I Football Championship?

Talk about overlay odds. Elon is at +5000 to win the FCS Championship. Quarterback Davis Cheek got hurt in the sixth game last season. He’s healthy. Cheek leads an offense that averaged 24.4 points last season. With Cheek back in the fold, Elon could average closer to 28.

The entire defensive line returns. Is Elon as good as North Dakota State, Eastern Washington, James Madison or Jacksonville State? Nope. But, if they get lucky in the playoffs, they can pull off the upset at big odds.
