2021 College Football Championship Odds Update Mar. 3

Written by on March 3, 2021

After a disrupted season in 2020, the hope is that college football will get back to normal, or as close to it as possible, this coming season. The first game of the 2021 season, which is regarded as Week 0 due to the fact that the major conferences don’t start until a week later, is August 28. There is a lot of time to wait before the action begins but based on the rosters that each team has in place, we already have a pretty good idea of who is likely to be challenging for a National Championship this coming season. It is the usual cast of characters that are among the favorites, but college football is crazy in that a single loss can blow up an entire season. It’s a bit too early to get into wins and losses, so let’s instead take a look at the current favorites and their College Football National Championship odds.

CBB National Championship Odds Up to Date

Alabama Crimson Tide (+250)

It is certainly not a surprise to see Alabama in as the favorite, as they have been the team to beat in the Nick Saban era. This is a team that consistently loads up on talent during recruiting, making it easy for them to fill the holes that inevitably arise when players leave for the draft. The Crimson Tide are the defending champions, which is a common refrain, but that in itself could prove to be a problem. This team has won a lot of titles, but they have not won back-to-back championships since doing it in 2011 and 2012. Will that trend continue this year?

Clemson Tigers (+450)

Over the past decade, the only team to have seen close to the same level of success as Alabama has been the Clemson Tigers. Much like the Crimson Tide, they are able to reload and not miss a step each year despite always losing a ton of key players to the draft. The biggest hole that they have to fill this season is at QB, with Trevor Lawrence set to go as the #1 pick in the NFL draft. The Tigers look to be in good shape in that regard with D.J. Uiagalelei. He has looked very good in limited action, but can he sustain it through an entire season.

Georgia Bulldogs (+500)

It was a down season for the Bulldogs last year, but there was also a very good reason for that. They had some real issues at QB due to injuries and players opting out, so they got off to a very wobbly start. That all changed when J.T. Daniels got healthy and came in as the starter. Georgia looked like a very different team with Daniels under center. They have a great crop of receivers coming in this year, plus they will also have their usual outstanding defense. This is a very dangerous team indeed.

Ohio State Buckeyes (+650)

The Buckeyes made it all the way to the National Championship Game last season before getting blown out by Alabama, so they certainly have a solid foundation. Their biggest issue coming into 2021 will be replacing QB Justin Fields, who is headed for the draft. This could be a much tougher season for the Buckeyes, but I would certainly not count them out.
