After last weekend’s slate of college football games, we’ve seen some changes in the Top 25. There was some jockeying in the Top 5, and some teams moved up into the Top 10. We saw many teams fall in the poll, and some teams fell completely out of the Top 25. We also saw some teams who got some huge wins over the weekend jump up or jump into the Top 25. Here is a brief analysis of this week’s Top 25, along with some NCAAF Betting predictions involving teams that are in this week’s AP Poll.
Top 25 College Football Analysis and Betting Opportunities
Top 10
Even though Nick Saban’s Alabama squad had a scare at the Swamp, barely beating the Florida Gators, they still have a firm grasp on the top spot. The Georgia Bulldogs dominated South Carolina and remained a strong #2. By virtue of Oklahoma barely surviving the Nebraska Cornhuskers, the Sooners and the Oregon Ducks flipped spots. Oregon now sits at #3 and looks like they’re in a great position to earn a spot in the College Football Playoffs.
Iowa is positioned at #5, while Penn State moved up to #6 after defeating Auburn at Happy Valley. Texas A&M, Cincinnati, Clemson, and Ohio State round out the Top 10. Cincinnati could make a huge jump up the polls if they defeat Notre Dame in a few weeks.
The Rest of the Pack
There was a lot of movement outside of the Top 10. UCLA fell from 13 to 24 after their devastating loss to Fresno State. Virginia Tech, who was rated 15th, fell out of the poll after West Virginia defeated them. Coastal Carolina fell to 17th after barely beating Buffalo. And BYU made a jump up the poll from 23rd to 15th after defeating the Arizona State Sun Devils. After their beatdown of Miami, the Michigan State Spartans jumped into the poll at #20, while the Hurricanes fell outside of the Top 25.
Prospective Bets
Many people were high on Clemson to start the season. Losing to Georgia was tough, but that loss is one that Clemson could have survived. After they struggled to beat Georgia Tech, Clemson should be feeling the pressure. They very well could run the table in the ACC, but their strength of schedule will really hurt them. They don’t play North Carolina this season, and there are no other ranked teams on their schedule at this point. We’d bet on Clemson not making the College Football playoffs this season.
Another school that we think will be on the outside looking in when it comes to playoff time is the Oklahoma Sooners. Many predicted that this could be the year that the Sooners put everything together. With Spencer Rattler at the helm of Lincoln Riley’s high-powered offense, an improved defense, and a fairly soft schedule, many felt that this team would be in the final four. After struggling with Tulane, and narrowly beating Nebraska, the Sooners have a lot of work to do to get back in the good graces of the playoff committee. Our money is on Oklahoma not making the playoffs this season.
