Home Tigers Looking to Get Back on Track

It has been a great year for Eli Drinkwitz and the Missouri Tigers so far in 2023. The Tigers won their first five games of the season, and picked up notable wins over Kansas State, and Memphis on the way. The two losses for the Tigers came to ranked teams, and national power house programs.

The Tigers finish with a home game against Florida and a road trip to Arkansas. Both teams are at or near the bottom of their division in the SEC standings, so the Tigers have a shot for a 10 win season. But, first they have a huge clash against the Big Orange of Tennessee.

Tigers Love Tossing the Football

Missouri comes into the game scoring 32.4 points per game. That ranks 36th in all of College Football. The passing game is in the Top 25 with 284.9 yards per game. Brady Cook leads that charge, as he has thrown 16 touchdowns on the season. Luther Burden III has been fantastic, as one of the top receivers in all of College Football. He has 64 receptions, 958 yards and 7 touchdowns on the season.

When looking to run the football, the Tigers can get the job done with Cody Schrader. The running back has 162 carries on the season, and needs just 81 more yards on the ground to reach 1,000. Schrader has 10 touchdowns on the season as well.

Tigers Looking to Get Defensive Against Vols

Missouri on the defensive side have forced 8 fumbles lost and intercepted 7 passes. Kris Abrams-Draine, defensive back leads the team with 4 interceptions on the season, and has 11 pass deflections this season.

One thing the Tigers defense would love to pick up is a touchdown. Despite the turnovers, they have yet to return one of them to the house. The Tigers are led by Ty’Ron Hooper in tackles, with 53. Darious Robinson leads the team in sacks with 5.5 on the season, for a total of 38 lost yards.

Missouri Tigers Season Leaders
Passing Yards | B. Cook: 183-272, 2471 YDS, 16 TD, 5 INT
Rushing Yards | C. Schrader: 162 CAR, 919 YDS, 10 TD
Receiving Yards | L. Burden III: 64 REC, 958 YDS, 7 TD

Tennessee Looking to Keep Streak Alive

The Tennessee Volunteers are looking to keep the streak alive and win their third straight game. The Volunteers lost an early season game on the road at Florida, and won three straight before their loss at Alabama. The Volunteers have a tough stretch of games here, as they host the top ranked Georgia Bulldogs in their next affair. The Volunteers will then finish the season at home against Vanderbilt.

Offense Clicking for Tennessee

Joe Milton III is the man in charge of the offense. Under center, the quarterback has a 66.4 QBR, with 2,016 yards passing, and 15 touchdowns thrown. His top target in the offense has been Squirrel White. White has 45 receptions, 556 yards and two touchdowns on the season. The Volunteers are throwing for 238.7 passing yards per game.

The run game for Tennessee is one of the best in the country Jaylen Wright is getting the carries, with 110, but also quarterback Milton does a great job keeping the ball on the ground. Tennessee will run, run, run and then open up for the ability to throw the football down field.

Defense a Big Deal for Volunteers

Josh Heupel and his defense know they are up against quite the challenge against a young, talented Missouri offense. The Volunteers have been up to the task for much of the season. Tennessee is 21st in total defense, as they are allowing 18.4 points per game.

In their last three wins, the Volunteers are allowing just under 14 points per game. The two losses this season were their most points allowed; as they allowed 29 at Florida and 34 at Alabama.

The Volunteers have picked off 9 passes, and forced 4 lost fumbles. They also have 30 sacks on the season. James Pearce Jr leads the team with 7 sacks, 48 yards for loss. Kamal Hadden, defensive back has three interceptions, while the Volunteers have 3 interceptions for touchdowns and a fumble return for touchdown.

Tennessee Volunteers Season Leaders
