Before the start of the 2018 college football season, we all made predictions about which teams would win their respective conferences and make it into the playoffs. Some conferences are tougher to predict than most, with the SEC being very high on the list. That said, the general consensus was that Georgia would win the East and Alabama would win the West, setting up an SEC Championship game that would serve as a rematch of the National Championship Game from last season. While both teams are at the top of their respective divisions, neither one has things sewn up just yet.
One team expected to challenge Alabama this year was the team that won the West last season, the Auburn Tigers. Things have not gone according to plan, though, and the Tigers are now officially out of the conference hunt. They need to try and finish the season strong, but they have another tough one this weekend with a trip to Oxford to face the Ole Miss Rebels. Auburn is in as a 4.5-point favorite, with the point total set at 63 ½.

Why bet on the Auburn Tigers?
Auburn was the class of the SEC West last season, winning the division before missing out on the playoffs by losing to Georgia in the Championship Game. The belief was that they would come back better and stronger this season, and things certainly started that way, as they knocked off Washington in Week 1 of the season. A loss to LSU soon followed and it has been all downhill since then.
The Tigers have now lost back to back games to fall to 4-3 on the season, and with all 3 losses coming against conference foes, there is no way they will repeat this year. The offense has been the real sticking point in recent weeks, managing just over 16 PPG in those 2 losses. The Tigers have been a good bet against Ole Miss, winning 4 of the last 5 meetings and going 6-1-2 ATS in the last 9.

Why bet on the Ole Miss Rebels?
At 5-2 on the season, the Ole Miss Rebels have been somewhat overlooked in the SEC, but those losses came against Alabama and LSU, a pair of teams currently in the top 5 in the National Rankings. Despite being soundly beaten in both of those games and scoring a combined 23 points, the Rebels offense is still averaging over 40 PPG this season.
Perhaps more importantly, they have been on fire in back to back wins, scoring 107 points over the last 2 weeks. In terms of an offensive battle with Auburn, this one is a total mismatch. They will have to snap a couple of negative trends here, though, as they are just 2-9 SU in the last 11 home games against the Tigers, as well as being 3-8 ATS in the last 11 at home to Auburn.

Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction for Auburn vs Ole Miss
While a few of the trends here are a little concerning, I am putting history aside and looking at the here and now. I don’t see Auburn being able to hang with Ole Miss if things get into shootout mode, which is why I smell a mild upset here.
