Last Meeting

None – it’s the first time the teams have played on the gridiron. Oklahoma State is one one of just six Power 5 conference teams without a non-conference game vs. another Power 5 school – that could hurt OSU down the line. The others are Arkansas, Illinois, Minnesota, Oregon, and Washington State. Oklahoma State already has beaten Missouri State and South Alabama and then goes into Big 12 play after Boise State this year. It’s the first time Oklahoma State won’t face a team from one of the other power conferences (ACC, Big Ten, Pac-12, SEC) since 2015.

Why Bet on Boise State?

The Broncos have looked amazing in routing Troy and UConn, although those aren’t exactly powerhouses (Troy isn’t bad). It was 62-7 over the Huskies last week. Brett Rypien threw for 362 yards and three touchdowns in little more than a half and Boise State set a school record for offensive yards. The Broncos gained 818 yards, including 514 in the first half. The previous record was 742 yards on Oct. 15, 2011, against Colorado State in Boise State’s first Mountain West game. Rypien had his 16th career 300-yard passing game, tying Kellen Moore for most with the program. Boise State’s 400 rushing yards were the sixth-most in program single-game history. The Broncos averaged 8.88 yards per carry (400 yards on 45 carries), the fourth-highest per-carry average in school single-game history. Boise State’s 62 points also marked its first 60-point game since beating Wyoming, 63-14, in Laramie on Nov. 22, 2014. It was also Boise State’s first 60-point home game since a 60-7 win over Southern Mississippi on Sept. 28, 2013. Boise State scored at least 50 points in each of its first two games for just the second time in school history (2004). The Broncos opened the 2004 season scoring 65 and 53 points against Idaho and Oregon State, respectively. Saturday’s game against Oklahoma State will be the Broncos’ first regular-season matchup against a school from the Big 12. The Broncos are 2-1 against the league, with each game coming in a postseason bowl. Boise State defeated Iowa State in the 2002 Humanitarian Bowl (34-16; Dec. 31) and Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl (43-42, OT; Jan. 1), before falling to Baylor in the 2016 Cactus Bowl (31-12; Dec. 27). Boise State is 13-16 all-time against ranked opponents, though has won three of its last four such contests. Since notching its first win over a top-25 opponent – 35-30 victory on the road at Fresno State in 2001 – Boise State is 13-12. The Broncos are 3-11 all-time when playing a road game against a ranked team, but won its last such match-up, a 31-14 victory at San Diego State last season.

Why Bet on Oklahoma State?

The Pokes have killed Missouri State and South Alabama. It was 55-13 vs. USA last week. Taylor Cornelius completed 25 of 40 passes for 428 yards and one touchdown. Tylan Wallace (10 receptions for 166 yards and one touchdown) and Tyron Johnson (five catches, 137 yards) each recorded breakout, career-high totals for the Cowboys. OSU scored four rushing touchdowns, including two by Justice Hill. Overall, Oklahoma State outgained South Alabama 617-214 in total offense. Cornelius became just the seventh quarterback in OSU history to record a 400-yard passing game. OSU has now had multiple 100-yard receivers four of its past five games and in nine of its past 13 games. It was the 23rd time in OSU history the Cowboys have had multiple 100-yard receivers in one game. The Cowboys rank No. 1 nationally in total offense 674.5 yards per game and No. 9 in total defense at 237.0. Boise State at Oklahoma State should be a victory for the Cowboys. Cornelius has set an OSU record for most passing yards in a quarterback’s first two career starts with 728. Doak Walker Award candidate Hill leads the Big 12 with three rushing touchdowns and averages 8.1 yards per carry this season. OSU also has forced at least one turnover in 29-straight games and in 38 of the last 39 games, dating to 2015. The OSU defense forced Missouri State into nine three-and-outs last week and forced South Alabama into eight. OSU has won 17-straight games when leading at halftime, a streak that began Sept. 17, 2016. Oklahoma State holds a 13-5-1 record against teams who are part of the current Mountain West conference, with the last meeting marked as a 48-24 win over Wyoming in Stillwater in 2003.
