Last Meeting

Boston College crushed FSU 35-3 last year in a surprise. AJ Dillon ran for 149 yards and a touchdown to help BC snap a seven-game losing streak against the Seminoles. Anthony Brown threw for one touchdown and ran for another, and Jeff Smith threw for a TD on a flanker option for BC. It was the most points the Eagles have ever scored against Florida State. BC linebacker Ty Schwab had 12 tackles, an interception, a sack and 2 1/2 tackles for a loss. Nyqwan Murray caught three passes for 102 yards for Florida State, which failed to score a touchdown for the first time since 2008. James Blackman completed 11 of 26 passes for 102 yards.

Boston College and Florida State meet for the 17th time in series history Saturday at Doak Campbell Stadium. The Seminoles lead the all-time series, 11-5. BC’s longest win streak in the series is two games – a 27-17 victory in 2008 and the 28-21 win in 2009. BC looks for its first win in Tallahassee since 2008.

Why Bet on Boston College?

BC gave excellent Clemson a challenge last week but lost 27-7. BC’s first offensive series of the game ended in a punt, but not before quarterback Anthony Brown was shaken up. He would not return and EJ Perry assumed the signal caller duties for Boston College. Perry finished 12-of-21 for 98 yards.

AJ Dillon rushed 16 times for a season-low 39 yards. It was his lowest rushing yardage total since Oct. 7, 2017, when he totaled 35 yards at home vs. Virginia Tech. Clemson outgained BC, 424-113, for the game. Boston College was 3-of-16 on third down conversions. BC is now 2-30 all-time against Top Five opponents, including a 0-13 mark at home.

In 17 games since Dillon was named the starter at running back on Oct. 14, 2017, Louisville, Boston College is 12-5 overall and has averaged 34.0 points per game and 232.6 rushing yards per game. Since then, Dillon leads all players nationally with 146.1 rushing yards per game.

Boston College is averaging 34.2 points per game, the third-best single- game average in school history. The Eagles are 32nd nationally and fourth in the ACC in scoring. Boston College has scored at least 40 points in an ACC game five times. Four of those five are in BC’s past 11 conference games.

With a win Saturday, Boston College would record a winning record in the ACC for the sixth time in school history. The last time BC won five ACC games in a season was 2009 (8-5, 5-3). The school record for single-season ACC victories is six, set in 2007. With a win, the Eagles would clinch their first eight-win season since 2009 (8-5, 5-3). It would be just the 30th eight-win campaign in 120 seasons of Boston College football.

Why Bet on Florida State?

Pride? Not much reason otherwise. FSU was blown out for the third week in a row last Saturday, 42-13 at Notre Dame. Dexter Williams became the first running back to run for 200 yards against Florida State since 1982. And his effort overshadowed an otherwise encouraging effort from FSU’s Cam Akers, who had his best game in a month with two touchdowns and 63 yards on 12 carries.

Notre Dame’s victory was just its third in nine tries against Florida State. The Seminoles entered the game with a .714 winning percentage against the Irish, the highest ever for an opponent to face Notre Dame at least five times.

Boston College vs Florida State should be a close one.

Florida State is 10-of-21 on 4th-down attempts this season and has converted 10 of its last 17 (.588). In records dating back to 1996, the 21 attempts are the most by the Seminoles in a season and the 10 conversions are tied for 2nd, along with the 1996 team, behind only the 15 conversions in 2004. From 2011-17, FSU only attempted 47 4th-downs and converted 20.

The Seminoles rank 2nd in the ACC and 22nd in the NCAA in 4th-down defense, holding opponents to a percentage of .400 (8-of-20), and are 4th in the conference allowing a .367 (61-of-166) conversion percentage on 3rd down.

Quarterback Deondre Francois moved into FSU’s top 10 for career passing yardage at Notre Dame. His 216-yard performance against the Irish pushed his total to 5,815 yards, eclipsing Charlie Ward for No. 10 all-time among Seminole quarterbacks. Through nine games played this season he ranks second in the ACC in passing yardage (2,255) and yards per game (250.6).
