Top College Football Bowl Picks of the Week – December 24th Edition

Written by on December 24, 2018

In the early part of bowl season, the games played are considered to be quite a way down the totem pole in regards of importance, but that is not the case with the games on tap for this week. The bigger teams from the Power 5 conferences will be taking the field this week, with the college football playoff games set to go this coming Saturday. If you have some time off over the next few days, then you are in for a bit of a treat, as the college football playoff calendar is jam-packed with big games. We have gone through them all and picked out what we think are some of the best NCAAF Betting Picks. A lot of these games are going to be tight, so feel free to create your own plays and parlay tickets.

Top College Football Bowl Picks of the Week – December 24th Edition

Minnesota Golden Gophers vs Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (-6)

The action gets started on Wednesday with the Quick Lane Bowl, a game that sees Minnesota and Georgia Tech go head to head in Ford Field in Detroit. Minnesota is in as a 6-point underdog, becoming bowl eligible by the skin of their teeth with a win over Wisconsin in the final game of the regular season.

The Yellow Jackets, meanwhile, finished the season strong, winning 4 in a row before running into the Georgia Bulldogs in their final game of the season. Tech will be bringing their triple-option offense to the table, which means a healthy dose of the run. Minnesota gave up an average of 170 YPG on the ground this season, which could lead to trouble here.

Latest NCAA Football Bowl Betting Trends

  • Minnesota is 3-6 SU in its last 9 games
  • Georgia Tech is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games
  • The total has gone OVER in 4 of Georgia Tech’s last 5 games

Miami Hurricanes vs Wisconsin Badgers (UNDER 47 ½)

This was a disappointing season for both of these teams, especially when you consider that both came close to the playoffs in 2017. With that in mind, both teams will be looking to end the season on a positive note with a win at the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium on Thursday night.

Over the last 6 games of the regular season, the Hurricanes saw the UNDER hit 5 times, with the other game being a push. Meanwhile, Wisconsin saw 4 of their last 5 games of the season go UNDER. Neither of these teams is blessed on offense, so expect a low-scoring battle here.

  • Miami is 2-5 ATS in its last 7 games
  • Miami is 2-4 SU in its last 6 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Miami’s last 5 games
  • Wisconsin is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games
  • Wisconsin is 19-6 SU in its last 25 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Wisconsin’s last 5 games

Baylor Bears vs Vanderbilt Commodores (-4)

Next, up on Thursday night, we have the Texas Bowl between the Baylor Bears and the Vanderbilt Commodores, a match-up that promises to be highly entertaining. The Commodores are in as a 4-point favorite for this one and look like a good bet for a couple of different reasons.

Baylor looks like a good NCAA Football Bowl pick.

They closed out the regular season by covering the spread in each of their last 5 games, but perhaps more importantly, they went 5-1 ATS when in as the favorite this season. That said, the Bears were a solid 4-2 ATS as the underdog, so things might be tight here. I am going with Vanderbilt to win and cover.

Latest NCAA Football Bowl Betting Trends

  • Baylor is 4-2 ATS in its last 6 games
  • Baylor is 7-17 SU in its last 24 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Baylor’s last 6 games
  • Vanderbilt is 5-0 ATS in its last 5 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Vanderbilt’s last 5 games

Notre Dame Fighting Irish (+12 ½) vs Clemson Tigers

While there are some entertaining games on the calendar throughout the week, it is the playoff semi-finals that we are all really looking forward to.

There are plenty of folks out there who see the National Championship match-up as being a bit of a foregone conclusion, with the expectation being that Alabama and Clemson will be hooking up once again. I tend to agree with that belief, but I am not so sure those teams breeze through to the big game. I do like Clemson to beat Notre Dame, but think the Irish can cover this spread.

  • Notre Dame is 2-3-1 ATS in its last 6 games
  • Notre Dame is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games
  • The total has gone OVER in 6 of Notre Dame’s last 9 games
  • Clemson is 6-2 ATS in its last 8 games
  • Clemson is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games
