College Football Expert Picks: Auburn Vs Oklahoma

Written by on December 30, 2016

By the time the dust has settled on Saturday night, we will know which two teams will be playing for the college football National Championship. While we wait for the big game to come around, we can tune in to some good looking bowl games, including the Orange Bowl, which will be played in New Orleans on Monday night. This looks like a very solid match-up, as the Auburn Tigers and Oklahoma Sooners are both coming off very respectable seasons. These are two teams with very contrasting styles: you have the Sooners who are all about offense, and who ended the season as the 3rd highest scoring team in the nation, and then you have an Auburn team that was top 5 in points allowed per game. That makes this game a little harder to handicap, because it’s tough to figure out which of those styles will carry the day on Monday. The bookies have this as a close one, with the Sooners coming in as a 3-point favorite.

Why bet on the Auburn Tigers

The Tigers don’t have any reason to worry about their defense, as that unit has been solid all season long. Where the issues start for these guys is on the offensive side of the football, but there is some good news for the Tigers in that department. The word is that QB Sean White will be back under center after missing the final 2 games of the regular season. There is no denying that Auburn are a better team when White is taking the snaps, and they are going to have to be good if they want to keep pace with the high-powered Sooners offense. Auburn were listed as an underdog in 3 games during the regular season, and they went a perfect 3-0 ATS in those match-ups.

Why bet on the Oklahoma Sooners

We haven’t yet crowned a national champion this season, yet there is already talk that the Sooners are going to be one of the favorites when the new season rolls around. A big reason for this is because QB Baker Mayfield has already announced that he will be returning for another season. Oklahoma finished the season 10-2 SU, with their final win coming against Oklahoma State in the Big-12 Championship Game. Bowl games have not been very kind to the Sooners, though, as they are a combined 7-12 ATS in bowl games dating back to 1992, and they failed to cover in their last two appearances.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

There is little to go on as far as head to head meetings with these two, as this is only the second time that they have met, the last one being the Sugar Bowl back in the 70’s. It was Oklahoma who won that one, and I think we can expect more of the same here.
