Notre Dame proves they’re for real by beating Clemson

In the most important game of the season so far, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish beat the Clemson Tigers 47-40. The win wasn’t easy. It took the Irish two overtimes to best the number-one ranked team in the nation.

The Irish did beat Clemson, though, which gives them an inside track to the College Football Playoff. The Tigers also have a great shot to make it to the CFP. Clemson will likely run the table and face Notre Dame in the ACC Championship.

If that happens and Clemson wins, the College Football Playoff selection team could reward both the Irish and the Tigers. Michigan, Penn State, and Wisconsin have had issues already this season, the Badgers had to cancel their game against Nebraska due to COVID positives, which means Ohio State is the only team in the Big Ten worthy of a playoff spot.

Alabama is the class of the SEC. So, if Bama and the Buckeyes go undefeated and Clemson beats ND in the ACC title game, the Atlantic Coast Conference could send two teams to the playoffs.

Florida knocks Georgia from College Football Playoff contention

Florida blasted Georgia, which should send the Bulldogs to the second-tier. The Gators have a legit Heisman Trophy candidate in Kyle Trask, an unbelievable offense, and a good defense.

Wait, strike that. Florida’s defense isn’t good at all. That’s the problem the Gators will face if they win out and take on Alabama in the SEC Championship. Florida could make a case to get into the College Football Playoff if they were to beat Alabama.

Now that Clemson has gone down, Bama is the new number one on the AP Poll. But even if Florida bests Alabama, who knows if they head to the SEC title matchup with a single loss on their record. They’ve got Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Tennessee, and LSU left on the schedule. A loss to any of those teams makes it impossible to grab a bid to play for the National Title and based on how Florida’s defense has played, another loss isn’t out of the question.

Alabama will be the new favorite, Oregon has almost zero shot to grab a CFP bid

The new AP Poll has Alabama ranked first, Notre Dame second, Ohio State third, and Clemson fourth. That tells us all we need to know about how hard it will be for Oregon to break into the top four.

The Ducks throttled rival Stanford on Saturday, but nobody seemed to care. The Pac 12 took so long to start their season that even one loss squads like Florida, Texas A&M, and Miami are ranked ahead of Oregon.

It doesn’t help that Oregon has just 5 games left on the schedule and that not a single one of those games is against a ranked opponent. The Pac 12 probably should have just canceled the season all together instead of fumbling through a 6 game schedule where none of their teams can compete for a title.

Have a great week!
