When Kentucky and Alabama meet in SEC college basketball later this season, it probably will be competitive. However, when the Wildcats visit the top-ranked Crimson Tide on the gridiron Saturday, well, it’s probably going to be a blowout with Bama a huge favorite on the NCAAF odds.

These schools are in opposite divisions and aren’t crossover rivals so they don’t play all that often. They last did in 2016 when Kentucky also visited No. 1 Alabama and the Tide rolled 34-6.

Alabama leads all-time 37-2-1 and has won the past six. Since 1947, the schools have met only 14 times with the Tide holding a 13-1 advantage over that stretch. Nick Saban is 7-0 in his career against the Wildcats, including a 4-0 mark while at Alabama. Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops is 0-2 against the Tide. This will mark the third consecutive time UK has faced Alabama when the Crimson Tide were the top-ranked team in the country

The Cats (3-4) beat winless Vanderbilt 38-35 last weekend. Chris Rodriguez Jr. carried 13 times for a career-high 149 yards and a pair of touchdowns. UK rushed for 308 yards as a team, the second-highest total for the Cats this season. Kentucky’s 458 yards of total offense also marked the second-highest in a game in 2020. UK’s season highs came against Ole Miss in the second game of the season.

Quarterback Terry Wilson had a solid game as he connected on 13 of his 15 passes, including nine of his first nine, for 110 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Wilson also rushed for 83 yards on seven carries, including a touchdown. On the seven possessions he played, UK averaged 9.1 yards per play. Wilson has 925 career rushing yards, most for any UK quarterback with at least 1,700 career passing yards.  Kentucky has rushed for at least 300 yards in seven of its past 12 games, including four of at least 400 yards. UK currently ranks second in the SEC in rushing offense (195.0).

The team honored assistant coach John Schlarman, who died last Thursday, by wearing a black sticker on their helmets with the initials “JS” in white letters. On the first offensive play, UK took a delay of game penalty, declined by Vanderbilt, as offensive lineman Landon Young took the field wearing Schlarman’s jersey.

It was the 47th victory at Kentucky for Mark Stoops, tying Fran Curci for second place in UK history. Since 2016, UK is 14-7 in games decided by seven points or fewer.

UK is second in the SEC and is 24th nationally in scoring defense (21.3), ranks 39th nationally in total defense (362.7) and 50th in rushing defense (148.6) and is 10th nationally and leads the SEC in red zone defense (.692). Kentucky ranks second in the SEC and fourth nationally with 11 interceptions.

The Tide haven’t played since a 41-0 rout of Mississippi State on Halloween as Alabama’s Nov. 14 game at LSU was postponed due to COVID-19 issues on the Tigers. Per the SEC, because LSU has a game tentatively scheduled for December 12, the opportunity to reschedule the Alabama at LSU game will need to be evaluated. The rescheduling of games on the remaining SEC football schedule may include December 19 as a playing date.

The Tide get some bad news recently, though, as running back Trey Sanders was in an accident near his home in Florida and is out indefinitely. The former top recruit, who was coming off a season-ending injury in 2019, ranks third on the team with 134 rushing yards this season.

Alabama has won 52 of the last 54 games at its home stadium following the Crimson Tide’s 41-0 shutout win over Mississippi State on Oct. 31. The Crimson Tide are 86-8 (.915) at Bryant-Denny Stadium during the tenure of Nick Saban, including an 82-5 (.943) record since the 2008 season.

Overall, Bama has defeated 95 consecutive unranked teams under Saban, the longest streak in FBS history. The current streak began with a win over Colorado on December 30, 2007 in the Independence Bowl. The previous record was 72 games.

Since Steve Sarkisian took over as offensive coordinator in 2018, the Crimson Tide have had an FBS-leading six different players catch a touchdown pass of 75 yards or more. So far this season, the Alabama offense has posted three of them. Bama has produced nine individual 100-plus yard receiving performances through six games this season, including at least one 100-plus yard receiver in every game. The Crimson Tide have also had multiple players in the same game over the 100-yard mark in three of six contests.

QB Mac Jones is on the cusp of an SEC record with his three 400-yard passing games. The league’s single-season mark for 400-yard passing games is four which has been accomplished three times in SEC history.
