Last Season

NC State beat Louisville 39-25 a season ago. Nyheim Hines ran for 102 yards and two scores and had a 48-yard kickoff return in the fourth quarter to set up a touchdown drive. Ryan Finley directed a passing attack that posted two 100-yard receivers and a third player who finished with 99 yards. Finley threw for 367 yards and a 48-yard score to Kelvin Harmon, part of N.C. State’s 520 total yards on a night it never trailed. Louisville’s Lamar Jackson, the 2016 Heisman winner, ran for two scores and threw a touchdown pass, but the Wolfpack sacked him four times and got a clinching interception return for a touchdown late to close out the Cardinals.

Since Louisville joined the ACC prior to the 2014 season, NC State holds a 1-3 mark against the Cardinals. Louisville has held serve on its home field the last two matchups, winning 30-18 in 2014 and 54-13 in 2016. NC State is 0-4 all-time at Louisville dating back to 1951.

Why Bet on NC State?

The Wolfpack were ranked but fell out of the polls following a 27-23 home upset to Wake Forest on Nov. 8. Wake Forest scored the game’s final two touchdowns, including the game-winner with just 30 seconds remaining. NC State got the ball back at its own 10-yard line with 0:21 left, but could only advance the ball to the 49-yard line before a game-ending INT ended it on the Hail Mary attempt.

QB Ryan Finley threw for 374 yards, the sixth time this season over 300 yards, and the 16th over his career which is second all-time at NC State (Philip Rivers – 19). Kelvin Harmon had a career-best 15 receptions. That mark also ties a school record for most catches in a game with Jaylen Samuels (2017) and Torry Holt (1998). Harmon combined with WR Jakobi Meyers (117 yards) to both eclipse 100 yards receiving, the second game this season NC State has had two players over 100 yards (Georgia State).

Harmon enters Game 10 with 65 catches for 965 yards. That is the No. 7 single-season receptions mark in school history (tied with Samuels’ 2015 mark) while his yardage ranks as the 7th-best single-season mark as well. In terms of career numbers, Harmon’s 2,444 career receiving yards is now third in school history, trailing only Holt and Jerricho Cotchery. With just 35 more yards this season, he will join those two Wolfpack greats as the only players in school history to turn in two 1,000-yard receiving campaigns.

The Wolfpack have won 9 of their last 14 ACC games, the second-best conference record among the 14 ACC teams since the beginning of the 2017 season, trailing only Clemson.

In less than three full years of competition, Finley has moved into third-place with 9,441 career passing yards – just 20 yards from Russell Wilson’s second-place total. Only Philip Rivers, who set an NCAA record with 51 starts at QB during his four-year Wolfpack career.

Why Bet on Louisville?

On Sunday, Louisville fired Coach Bobby Petrino. Louisville’s season has bottomed out during a seven-game losing streak and a five-game stretch of ACC defeats by at least 18 points, including blowout losses to Clemson and Syracuse over the past two weeks. The Cardinals are averaging 21.7 points per game this season, lowest in the ACC. This comes after they led the conference in scoring each of the past two seasons.

Petrino coached Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Lamar Jackson in 2016, but this season the Cardinals have allowed 50 points or more in five of 10 games, including a 77-16 loss at Clemson on Nov. 3. Don’t feel too bad for Petrino as he walks away owed $14 million. Petrino’s son, quarterbacks coach Nick Petrino; defensive line coach L.D. Scott; and linebackers coach Ryan Beard were also shown the door along with director of football operation Andy Wagner.

Purdue’s Jeff Brohm, a former Louisville quarterback, is the top candidate for the full-time job. The interim coach is Lorenzo Ward. Louisville athletic director Vince Tyra said he tabbed the second-year safeties coach for his administrative and leadership skills.

NC State vs Louisville looks like a pretty good NCAA Football Week 12 game.

In last week’s 54-23 loss to Syracuse, quarterback Jawon Pass accounted for 276 yards of total offense. He rushed for a career-high 80 yards while completing 13-of-25 passes for 196 yards and one touchdown. Running back Colin Wilson rushed 10 times for 42 yards and scored his first career touchdown on a four-yard run late in the fourth quarter for the final points of the game.

The Cardinals totaled 413 yards of total offense in the loss to Syracuse — the fourth time the Cardinals totaled over 400 yards of total offense in a game. The Cardinals averaged 5.9 yards per play, including 5.2 yards per rush. Wide receiver Jaylen Smith continues to lead the team in receiving with 31 receptions for 463 yards while averaging a solid 14.9 yards a reception. He owns 147 receptions for 2,418 yards and 15 touchdowns in his career.

The Cardinals have given up more than 38 points in the last five games, including over 50 in the last three games. Louisville is allowing 42.1 points per game this year and allowing 468.3 yards per game.
