Oklahoma At Texas Tech College Football Expert Predictions

Written by on October 21, 2016

We always talk about how hard is to repeat as a champion in any sport, and in the case of college football, that also means repeating as a conference champ. It was Oklahoma who were the winners of the Big 12 last year, and it was believed that they would quite easily do it again this year. They have had a tough start to the season, though, but are starting to put things together with three straight wins. They will be heading into Texas this weekend to face a Red Raiders team that is heading in the opposite direction. Tech have now lost back to back games, and are now just 3-3 on the season. The low point to their season had to have been the 48-17 beating they took at the hands of the West Virginia Mountaineers on home field last weekend. It is going to be interesting to see if they can bounce back from that defeat, or if it will serve as the beginning of the end of their season. The Sooners are a 14.5-point betting odds favorite for this one.

Why bet on the Oklahoma Sooners

There ca be no denying how good the Oklahoma Sooners offense is, as they are averaging up around 40 PPG this season. A little more concerning is the play of the defense who ae giving up over 30 PPG. Last week was a bit of a better performance from them, though, as they were able to hold an admittedly toothless Kansas State offense to just 17 points. The one thing that the Sooners have not been very good at this season is covering the spread, as they have only managed to do so twice in the 6 games that they have played so far. Both of those covers came when they were favored by 14 points or less, so this week may be a challenge.

Why bet on the Texas Tech Raiders

Texas Tech are 3-3 this season, and have now lost their last two outings. One of their biggest issues is that they have an offense that can best be described as one-dimensional. They have no real running game to speak of, but they do have a very good QB in Patrick Mahomes. He is putting up some staggering numbers this season, mostly because he is being asked to throw the ball on almost every down. Mahomes is accurate, and does not make a lot of mistakes. He will be going against an Oklahoma secondary that has been routinely torched all season long, and he is going to have some level of success in this game.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The balanced attack that Oklahoma can bring to this game are probably going to be too much for Texas Tech to handle. This thing could go back and forth early, but I think that Oklahoma will put the game away in the end.
