While it’s certainly exciting to now have a playoff system in place, it still has to be said that the way the final 4 teams are chosen is a little bit odd. Yes, wins and losses are important, but the Playoff Committee also looks at strength of schedule, and how each team played in all of their games. Style points are important, which is not something that you really see in any other sport. If the committee chose to downplay the importance of wins and losses, there would be a couple of teams who would likely still be in the running for postseason play. The Ole Miss Rebels are arguably one of the most talented teams in college football right now, but a couple of bad quarters of football have done them in this season. They head to Arkansas with a 3-2 record, but could just as easily be 5-0 had they not found a way to gas games against Alabama and Florida State. They blew big leads in both of those outings, but now seem to have found their way again. They are going to have to be good to beat a decent Arkansas Razorbacks team this coming Saturday. Why bet on the Ole Miss Rebels
There can be no questioning the effectiveness of the Ole Miss Rebels offense this season, as QB Chad Kelly has delivered the types of numbers that people expected from him heading in. Kelly can be a little prone to errors, though, and they often come at a time when they can prove to be a game changer. This is a guy that is as likely to throw 4 INT’s as he is to throw 4 TD’s. Although in fairness, it’s usually more of the latter. You have to believe that the Rebels will be looking to exact some revenge for the 53-52 loss they took at the hands of the Razorbacks last season, as well as for the 30-0 thumping they received in their last visit to Fayeteville.
Why bet on the Arkansas Razorbacks
In order for Arkansas to keep their winning streak against Ole Miss alive, they are going to have to find a way to get the running game to be more effective. They have become a little too reliant on QB Austin Allen, and while the young man has been good, he has also been forced into making mistakes, most notably against Alabama last week. The Ole Miss run defense has proven to be very porous this season, so the Razorbacks do have a shot at being able to do a little bit of ground and pound. Establish that part of the game, and they could well come out on top again.
Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction
Both of these teams have explosive offenses, as well as defenses that can be breached, so expect to see some points hit the board in this one. I like Ole Miss to continue rolling with a nice win on the road.
