Texas at Oklahoma NCAA Football Week 6 Lines & Expert Pick

Written by on October 3, 2018

In most cases, we need to wait until the final week of the season to see the biggest rivalry games that college football has to offer. You get Georgia and Georgia Tech going that week, as well as the Iron Bowl between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Auburn Tigers. The good news is that we don’t always need to wait that long to see great rivalries, and we have an absolute beauty set to go this coming Saturday in what is arguably the best match-up on the Week 6 schedule.

The Red River Rivalry is always something special, but it may be even more meaningful this season given that the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners are coming into this one ranked in the top 25. Texas has already sustained a loss this season, which means that their hopes of a playoff spot are rather slim at the moment. A lot can happen between now and the end of the season, but both will be aware that a second loss would definitely kill the top 4 dreams. Oklahoma is in as an 8-point favorite, with the point total set at 60 ½.

Why bet on the Texas Longhorns?

This was a season of high expectations for the Texas Longhorns, but it got off to the worst start imaginable after they lost to Maryland in the opening week of the season. Since then, though, the Longhorns have been ticking along quite nicely, winning 4 in a row, including a big win over in-state rivals TCU.

As good as the Longhorns have been in recent weeks, they are going to need to up their game a little more to get past an Oklahoma team that is firing on all cylinders right now. This is a team that they have only beaten twice in the last 8 attempts, and who they have now lost to in back to back years. That said, the last two defeats have been close, with Texas losing by 5 points in each of their last meetings with the Sooners. This season, Texas is 2-3 ATS, although 1-0 as an underdog.

Why bet on the Oklahoma Sooners?

Every team in the top 25 gets a scare or two over the course of the season, with Oklahoma getting theirs a couple of weeks ago against Army. The Sooners went into that game as a 28 ½-point favorite, but they needed OT to come away with the 28-21 win. That little scare seemed to have an effect on this group, as they came out and dominated Baylor a week later, winning that one 66-33.
Texas at Oklahoma should be an easy victory for the Sooners.
Other than the game against Army, the Sooners have had no problem scoring points, although they are still just 2-3 ATS on the season thus far. They have failed to cover against Texas in each of their last 5 meetings, so no guarantee that they will be able to do so here. 5 of the last 6 games that Oklahoma have played have gone OVER.

This should be a fantastic game to start Week 6 of the college football season off right. I like the Sooners to win here, and I also like them to cover, with the total going OVER.
