Washington vs BYU 2019 College Football Week 4 Odds & Analysis

Written by on September 19, 2019

While there are very big differences between college football and the NFL, there is one thing that they have in common, which is that a team really needs an elite QB under center if they are to compete for a championship. Landing that 5-star player is easier now than it was in the past, with QB’s routinely switching schools through the transfer portal. While some guys are willing to sit and wait their turn, other guys want to start right now.

With that in mind, we have seen some very big transfers over the past couple of seasons. Jalen Hurts, who won championships in Alabama, is now plying his trade in Oklahoma, while Justin Fields is now starring for Ohio State after leaving Georgia behind. Jacob Eason, who left Georgia a couple of years back, is now enjoying his first year as a starter in his native Washington. He will be looking to help the Huskies get win #3 on the season when he and his teammates head into Utah to face the BYU Huskies this weekend. Washington is favored by 6 ½, with the point total set at 51.

Why bet on the Washington Huskies?

Eason and the Washington Huskies looked very good in the opening week of the season, downing Eastern Washington by a score of 47-14. Things did not go so well in Week 2, though, as the Huskie offense came out very flat in a 20-19 loss to the California Golden Bears. Every loss hurts, but that one was particularly painful, as it immediately has the Huskies in a hole in the battle to win the PAC 12.

There is still plenty of time for Washington to right the ship, though, which is certainly possible when you consider that this team has won 12 of their last 16 games. They have not had a lot of joy against Independent teams, though, winning just 2 of their last 8 meetings. The Huskies are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 Saturday outings.

Team Stats (Last 10 Games)

  • Score: 28.62
  • Rush Yards: 172.12
  • Pass Attempts: 30.62
  • Completion Percentage: 62.45
  • Passing Yards: 222.12
  • Total Yards: 394.24
  • Turnovers: 0.62

Why bet on the BYU Cougars?

If you are a fan of playing the underdog, the BYU Cougars are certainly worth taking a look at given what they have already accomplished this season. The Cougars started the season with a loss, going down 30-12 to the Utah Utes and failing to cover the spread. It has been all positive since then, though, as they sprung the upset over the Tennessee Volunteers on the road in Week 2 before taking out USC in an OT thriller last weekend.

Washington vs BYU is going to be a close one.

With those back to back covers, the Cougars are now 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games. The chances of them springing another major upset here may not be that great, as they are just 5-15 SU in their last 20 as the underdog. This is a team certainly worth looking at against the spread, though.

Team Stats (Last 10 Games)

  • Score: 19.50
  • Rush Yards: 77.88
  • Pass Attempts: 39.00
  • Completion Percentage: 62.50
  • Passing Yards: 288.38
  • Total Yards: 366.26
  • Turnovers: 1.25
