Week 12 College Football Favorites: UTSA At Texas A&M

Written by on November 18, 2016

The 23rd-ranked Texas A&M Aggies likely won’t have any trouble beating the overmatched Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners when they square off on Saturday, making the only real question surrounding this matchup whether or not the Aggies will cover the spread as four-touchdown home favorites. Let’s find out now about the latest betting odds.

A Closer Look At The Week 12 College Football Favorites: Roadrunners At Aggies

UTSA

The UTSA Roadrunners (5-5 SU, 4-5-1 ATS) had their two-game winning streak snapped in their 63-35 blowout loss against Louisiana Tech last weekend while failing to cover the spread as a 21-point underdog. The Roadrunners are averaging 31.6 points per game to rank a solid 50th in scoring as quarterback Dalton Sturm has completed 59.2 percent of his passes with 16 touchdowns and just five interceptions while adding 253 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Running back Jalen Rhodes has racked up a team-high 709 rushing yards and eight touchdowns while fellow back Jarveon Williams has added 675 rushing yards and an identical eight touchdowns. Receivers Josh Stewart and Kerry Thomas Jr. have combined to haul in 51 passes for 11 touchdowns. Defensively Texas-San Antonio is allowing a generous 30.3 points per game to rank an uninspiring 79th in points allowed.

Texas A&M

The Aggies (7-3 SU, 4-6 ATS) have dropped two straight and three of their last four games and were on the wrong end of a heartbreaking 29-28 loss to Ole Miss last time out while failing to cover the spread as a 7-point favorite. With starting quarterback Trevor Knight out for the remainder of the season, backup Jake Hubenak will get the start in this contest. For the season, Hubenak has completed 60 percent of his passes with five touchdowns and two interceptions. The Aggies average a healthy 36.3 points per game to rank 29th nationally in scoring as receivers Christian Kirk and Josh Reynolds have combined for 133 receptions for 15 touchdowns. Running back Trayveon Williams has rushed for a team-high 876 yards and six touchdowns. Defensively, Texas A&M has limited the opposition to 22.2 points per game to rank 31st nationally in points allowed.

Expert Prediction and Pick

I don’t like the high point spread in this contest, but seeing as how UTSA got blown out by 28 points against Louisiana Tech last weekend, I’ve got to believe that Texas A&M should be able to do likewise to the Roadrunners in this contest. Texas A&M is 0-5 ATS in their last five games, but UTSA is just 1-5-2 ATS in their last eight road games. Texas A&M has gone 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games against teams from Conference-USA and I like them to improve on that mark in this contest by handling the Roadrunners in this Week 12 matchup.

Pick: Texas A&M 49 UTSA 20
