Week 13 College Football Lines: Mississippi State At Ole Miss

Written by on November 24, 2016

When your team has had a disappointing season, you look for any little positive to hold on to once aid season comes to an end. One thing that can make fans a little happier is closing things out with a win over a big rival, and there are certainly going to be plenty of opportunities for that to happen this weekend. One of the bigger games on the Saturday slate is the Egg Bowl, which sees the Mississippi State Bulldogs and Ole Miss Rebels renew hostilities. Both teams have been poor this season, but it is probably the Rebels who are realistically the more disappointed of the two. They looked like a team that was stacked with talent and ready to challenge in the SEC West, but they were never able to put it all together in enough games this season. They will be entering this game as an 8-point online betting favorite, but they are going to have to go out and get the win without senior QB Chad Kelly who is out for the year with an injury.

Analyzing The Week 13 College Football Betting Lines: Bulldogs At Rebels

When: Saturday, November 26 at 3:30 PM EST Where: Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, University TV: CBS Live Stream: CBS Sports Network NCAAF Odds: TBA

Why bet on the Mississippi State Bulldogs

The Bulldogs have been a bit of a one man team this season, as QB Nick Fitzgerald has been too often asked to be the man to do it all. He can pass and he can run, but he has precious little in the way of talent surrounding him. It’s no real surprise then that Mississippi State have fallen to a rather dismal 4-7 this season. They are coming into this one having lost back to back games, and they have only 1 win in their last 5. The fact that they have surrendered 109 points in those last two games is a sign of just how porous they are on the defensive side of the ball. The Mississippi State Bulldogs are 4-7 ATS, but they are a winning 3-2 ATS as an underdog.

Why bet on the Ole Miss Rebels

You have to believe that if Chad Kelly were healthy, this thing would be over all too quickly, and we would also probably be looking at a larger spread. Redshirt freshman QB Shea Patterson has looked the part so far, and has been very effective whilst also steering clear of mistakes. He should be a lot more comfortable now with a pair of games under his belt, and that could prove to be bad news for the Bulldogs. The big question here is whether this poor Rebels defense is going to be able to put the brakes on Fitzgerald. If they can do that, they win handily.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Ole Miss have had the upper hand in the Egg Bowl in recent years, winning 3 of the last 4, with the previous two wins not being particularly close. I think they win this one, too, and cover the spread in the process.
