Wisconsin At Iowa College Football Winning Predictions – Oct 19th

Written by on October 19, 2016

As impressive as moral victories may appear on the outside, they do nothing to improve your overall win/loss record. The Wisconsin Badgers had the nightmare of having to face Michigan and Ohio State back to back, and while they only lost those games by a combines 14 points, they still essentially came away with nothing. If they can take anything from those games, it’s that they are headed in the right direction as a program. Staying close with one of the big boys is good, but doing it back to back against two of the best teams in the country is a sign that you are a very good team. This weekend sees another tough match-up for the Badgers in the form of the Iowa Hawkeyes. At 5-2 on the season, the Hawkeyes are off the stellar pace they set last year, but this is still a team that can cause some real problems for their opponents. The last two meetings between these teams have been close, and I don’t really expect much different here. The Badgers come into this one as a slight 3.5-point betting odds favorite.

Why bet on the Wisconsin Badgers

Wisconsin has built a defense that has to be ranked as one of the best in the nation. Last weekend, the Ohio State Buckeyes were unable to get into the end zone against the Badgers until late in the 3rd quarter, and the defense continued to hold strong up until the end. It was eventually an OT strike that took down the Badgers in that one. Coming into this game, you have to wonder what effect those two losses are going to have. Are Wisconsin going to be feeling a little sorry for themselves, or are they going to look at their performance against two great teams as something to build on? I believe it might well be the latter option.

Why bet on the Iowa Hawkeyes

The Hawkeyes are another team that get their wins courtesy of the defense which is why their giving up over 450 yards through the air against Purdue last week came as a bit of a shock. It was an uncharacteristic performance by Iowa, and one that they were able to escape, thanks in large part to their ability to create turnovers. Through their first 7 games, the Hawkeyes have forced 11 turnovers, and you feel that they are going to need a couple more to get the win this weekend. The Iowa offense is not going to get a lot of joy unless they get good field position via the turnover. If that happens, they could win this one.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The last two meetings have been tight and of the low-scoring variety, so it’s safe to assume we can expect more of the same here. Wisconsin edges it in the end by a FG.
