Nebraska vs Maryland Season Series
First and only scheduled meeting. Tuesday is the 10th meeting between the two teams, all since the Terrapins joined the Big Ten in 2014-15. Maryland leads the series, 6-3, with six of the nine meetings decided by five points or less. This will mark the seventh time in the 10 that Maryland has been ranked at game time.

The Huskers (7-16, 2-10 Big Ten) lost their eighth in a row Saturday, 96-72 at No. 17 Iowa. Joe Wieskamp and Luka Garza proved too much for the Huskers. Wieskamp scored a career-high 30 points, while Garza, the Big Ten’s leading scorer, added his ninth straight 20-point game with 22 points. The duo combined for 52 points while going 19-of-28 from the field. As a team, Iowa shot 49 percent and knocked down 11 3-pointers.
Nebraska fell to 0-4 against ranked teams, all coming in Big Ten play. The win by Iowa snapped Nebraska’s two-game win streak in the series. NU is now 2-17 all-time in Iowa City. Jervay Green reached double figures for the eighth time this season, finishing with 18 points in the game, including 11 in the first half. It surpassed his high in Big Ten play this year (11 at Rutgers) and is his most since scoring 22 against Southern on Nov. 22. Green has scored in double figures in three of his four Big Ten road games, including each of his last two conference road tilts.
Cam Mack finished with 13 points, his team-high 20th double-figure effort of the season. Dachon Burke Jr. finished with 12 points for his 13th double-figure game of the season.
With 148 assists, Mack needs just five assists to move past former Husker great Tyronn Lue for fifth place on Nebraska’s single-season list. Lue had 152 assists in the 1997-98 season, his final season at NU before embarking on an 11-year NBA career. Mack is one of just eight players in Division I — and just three in power conferences — averaging at least 12.0 points, 6.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game.
Nebraska’s assist-to-turnover ratio is 1.28, which is on pace to rank seventh in school history. The Huskers are fourth in the Big Ten in assist-to-turnover ratio, including second in Big Ten action. In addition, NU’s 14.4 assists per game is on pace to be the Huskers’ highest total since the 2007-08 season.

Maryland (19-4, 9-3 Big Ten) won its sixth in a row last Friday, 75-66 at then-No. 20 Illinois. The Illini led by as many as 14 points midway through the first half, but the Terrapins fought back and pulled to within 42-40 at the half. Maryland opened the second half with an 11-0 run to take a lead it never relinquished.
Anthony Cowan Jr. scored 20 points, Darryl Morsell scored 18 and Eric Ayala added 12 for Maryland. After losing their first four away games of the season, the Terrapins have won their past three. Cowan has taken his game to a new level over the past few weeks, bouncing back from some off outings early in Big Ten play. In Maryland’s past four games, Cowan is averaging 21.5 points and 5.0 assists (and only 1.8 turnovers) while shooting 44% from 3-point range.
Cowan Jr. has scored at least 16 points in 14 of his last 19 games and currently leads the Big Ten in free throws made (120) and attempted (153). He is the first Terp to record multiple 30-point games in a season since Terrell Stoglin had four in 2011-12. Cowan is also second all-time in free throws made (527) and fifth in assists (537) at Maryland. He has started all 122 games of his career, and is on pace to break Keith Booth’s record of 126 consecutive starts.
All-American candidate Jalen Smith has recorded six straight double-doubles and is averaging 19.2 points (55% FG), 12.0 rebounds and 3.2 blocks during that span. Smith, who leads the Big Ten with 14 double-doubles, is a top-10 candidate for the Karl Malone Award (top power forward).
Maryland has won five games this year when trailing by double-digits, and is 6-4 when trailing at halftime and 3-3 when trailing with 5:00 to play. Maryland is the first power-5 team since UCLA (2004-05) to come back from deficits of at least 14 points in the second half in conference action.
With a victory against Nebraska, Maryland head coach Mark Turgeon (199-96) would claim his 200th as head coach of the Terrapins and become the fifth head coach in program history to reach the milestone. Only Lefty Driesell (285 games) will have reached the milestone faster.
