2018 NFL Regular Season Betting Checklist
Check the ATS Standings Do you know which teams soared against the spread a year ago and which ones floundered like a fish out of water. Better yet, go look at the ATS standings for the last two or three seasons. If you find a handful of teams that have produced two or three consecutive winning – or losing – ATS seasons – that’s a great way of getting some insight into what could lie ahead for these very same teams. On the Move! Do you know which teams made roster-improving additions like the L.A. Rams? If you’re not up on your offseason transactions, then you could fall victim to some team either getting better – or worse – because of their offseason transactions. For instance, the Miami Dolphins are going to be hard-pressed to find playmakers seeing as how they lost not one, but two Pro Bowlers (Jay Ajayi and Jarvis Landry) from the season-opening roster from a year ago. Up, Down and All Around Along with those offseason transactions, you need to identify teams that you believe are set to either improve (Cincinnati, Cleveland) or take a step backwards (Miami, Buffalo, Tennessee, Detroit) this coming season and place your wagers accordingly. Brand New, Baby! Another thing you need to do before the start of any new NFL regular season is identify teams that have either, new head coaches or new starting quarterbacks. In the cases of both, struggles often come with being a first-timer. Sure, the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers soared last season under their respective first-year head coaches, but that was more of a rarity, rather than the norm, if you ask me. The Kansas City Chiefs and likely, the New York Jets, will have first-time starting quarterbacks this season while the Lions, Bears, Titans and a few other teams, will have first-time head coaches. Check that Wallet Unless you’re wagering with an unlimited wallet (that must be nice) then you need to make sure you’ve checked your wallet and how much or how little, you plan on wagering on each week. You should also take into account, winning and losing streaks that could alter your wallet – and your betting plans – significantly. Remember! Just like Mufasa told Simba….Remember! All jokes aside, you should always keep a record of your wagers and go back to look at the successful wagers you made and the failed ones and remember what your mindset was at the time you made those wagers. You can find out which weeks have been most profitable for you and which ones you’ve struggled in. Do you make more winning wagers once the regular season moves into the second half or prior? Knowing your own betting trends is also a big help.
