NFL Week 16 Over/Under Picks

There are now just 2 weeks left in the NFL season before we get to the playoffs, yet there are still 7 spots available. That number could very well change dramatically this weekend, as we are going to see a couple of more spots clinched and a few teams fall by the wayside. When there is so much at stake with all the games on the calendar, making picks gets a little tougher, but we are going to give it a shot. For this piece, we are focusing solely on NFL odds for the Over/Under, but we will also have SU and ATS picks coming out to you today, so be on the lookout for those.

NFL Week 16 Over/Under Picks

Green Bay Packers at New York Jets (OVER 44)

Neither of these teams is going to be anywhere near the postseason and both are probably looking at some big changes in the offseason. For now, though, it’s all about saving a little pride, particularly for Aaron Rodgers, a QB who has not lost 3 games in December since way back in 2008.

A loss here would make it 3 in December for Rodgers and the Packers, so look for them to come out and get the win. More importantly, though, I think we are looking at the OVER here. 17 of the last 23 Packers road games have gone that route, as have 5 of the last 6 Jets home games.

Minnesota Vikings at Detroit Lions (OVER 43 ½)

The Vikings offense found new life last week, dropping 41 points on the Miami Dolphins after managing just 17 combined points in the previous 2 weeks. That may well prove to be a sign that they are getting into high gear for the playoffs, or it may prove to be a weird blip on the radar.

We are all well aware that the Lions have struggled to put points on the board all season long, and when these two meet, it is the under that usually comes up. I have a feeling that bookies may have gone a little too low here, which is why I am going with the OVER.

  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Detroit’s last 5 games when playing Minnesota

Chicago Bears at San Francisco 49ers (OVER 42 ½)

With the Chicago Bears clinching the NFC North last week, there is always the possibility that they could have a bit of a letdown game here. I find that to be somewhat unlikely, though, as they still have an outside shot at landing in one of the top two spots that would guarantee a first-round bye in the playoffs.

The Bears are favorites to win in NFL Week 16 against the 49ers.

While very much a defense-first team, the Bears tend to open things up on the road, seeing the point total go OVER in 4 of their last 6 games away from home. 5 of their last 7 games played in San Francisco have also gone that route, so let’s follow the trend.

Houston Texans at Philadelphia Eagles (OVER 45)

A big game for both of these teams, with Houston looking to maintain a top 2 spot in the AFC, while the Eagles look to keep their playoff hopes, as well as a shot at defending their Super Bowl crown, alive.

In the last 4 meetings between these two teams, it has been the Eagles who have won the lot, but perhaps more importantly, it was the OVER that hit in 3 of those 4 games. The OVER has only hit once in the 7 home games that Philly have played this season, but I think we are creeping OVER in this one.’
