Which team deserves more attention to win the AFC? The Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs, or New England Patriots?
Baltimore’s a lock to win the AFC, right? They’ve got the best player in the NFL, quarterback Lamar Jackson. Coach John Harbaugh has won a Super Bowl. The Ravens’ defense ranks in the Top 10. Baltimore should trounce their AFC competition.
All true. Baltimore is the best team in the NFL. But, the AFC is much deeper than NFL future bettors realize. Just three weeks ago the Patriots were the favorites to win the Super Bowl. If the offense can get on a roll, New England will be tough.
But the Pats aren’t the team the Ravens must worry about. The Kansas City Chiefs have stepped it up. They’ve won their last 3 games behind their defense. KC beat the Chargers 24-17. They beat the Raiders 40-9. In their last game, they took apart New England 23-16.
The Ravens won’t stop Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense. Lamar Jackson is great. He can only lead the Ravens to a single touchdown on each possession, though. One possession could determine the winner in a Ravens-Chiefs AFC Championship. The odds on the Chiefs are more attractive than what the Ravens offer.
Are the Texans, Titans, or Bills the better bet to win the AFC?
It’s a toss-up between Tennessee and Buffalo. Both those teams play great defense. Buffalo had a chance to tie the game against the Ravens on the final drive. They failed, but they were in a position to upset the best team in the league.
Tennessee is on a roll. They’ve won 4 in a row and 5-of-6. The Titans jump into the AFC South driver’s seat after they beat Houston on Dec. 15. Go with either the Bills or Titans over the Texans.
What are the Steelers’ true chances of winning the conference?
Don’t accept anything less than +5000 on the Steelers to win the AFC. Pittsburgh has a great defense. The offense won’t improve. Once the playoffs start, Pittsburgh must battle teams that are much better than they are.
Do any of the huge underdogs have a realistic shot to win the AFC?
They don’t. The Colts, Browns, Raiders, and Broncos all have significant disadvantages facing the Chiefs, Ravens, Patriots, and Bills. They shouldn’t beat the Titans or the Texans. Don’t waste betting dollars on underdogs that have no chance.
