Once we know which 12 teams will be in the playoffs vying for the Super Bowl, the business of handicapping each team begins. While the ultimate goal is to be the champion, the journey begins with navigating the conference playoffs. The NFC is stacked this season, with all 6 teams in with a legitimate shot at representing the NFC in the Super Bowl. We have already studied the AFC side of things, so now let’s take a closer look at the latest odds to win the NFC.
Updated NFL Odds to Win the NFC – January 2nd
New Orleans Saints
- NFL Odds to win the NFC: +123
Not only are the Saints the top pick to win the NFC, but they are also the favorite for the Super Bowl. They cruised to the top of the conference from the off, and while the LA Rams stumbled a little, New Orleans stayed the course and clinched home-field advantage through the playoffs. That may be important for this team, who are making their second straight playoff appearance. The Saints look good from top to bottom and will have learned from their early exit last season.
- NFL Odds to win the NFC: +250
Through the first half of the season, the Rams looked about as close to unbeatable as it gets. They set a pace that was always going to be difficult to maintain through a tough 16-game schedule, so it’s perhaps not totally surprising that they took a few missteps in the second half. This is a team that is incredibly gifted on both sides of the football, as well as one that is going to be very tough to beat.
- NFL Odds to win the NFC: +550
If you are looking for a dark horse pick to win the Super Bowl, I would suggest that you take a very long look at the Chicago Bears. We always talk about defense winning championships, and if that is indeed the case, then this Bears team is a legitimate threat. The arrival of Khalil Mack before the start of the season put this group over the top, and their 12-win season was certainly no fluke. A very solid bet and one that I am looking at seriously.
- NFL Odds to win the NFC: +1350
As you can see, there is a rather large drop off in the odds after the top 3 teams in the conference. The Dallas Cowboys will not really care about their current odds, especially when you consider that they had been written off at the midway stage of the season. The Cowboys came to life when they traded for Amari Cooper and ended up winning the NFC East with a week to spare.
- NFL Odds to win the NFC: +1450
It is a bit of a surprise to see this team in the playoffs, as they are in a bit of a transition phase at the moment. They got here by playing great defense and putting together a running attack that has been very tough to stop.
They would be a much better bet if they were starting out at home, but they will be on the road to Dallas in the opening weekend of the postseason. Great odds, but a very dangerous bet.
- NFL Odds to win the NFC: +1750
The defending Super Bowl champions are the longshot pick in the NFC, with the reality being that they needed to have a killer final few weeks, as well as some help, just to get in. There are definite shades of last season, as it will once again be backup QB Nick Foles leading the playoff charge. Their run to the playoffs was a great story, but I do not see history repeating for the Eagles.
