While the schedule for the 2019 regular season won’t be officially released until April 18, there are already several things that NFL bettors should know about the upcoming season.
It’s Going Down In The Chi!
The NFL is mixing it up for its100th anniversary celebration. Instead of giving the league’s now, annual Thursday night opener to the defending Super Bowl champions,Roger Goodell and the league’s schedule-makers have decided to give the first game of the season to the rising Chicago bears who will also be celebrating their 100th anniversary of existence. That’s right NFL bettors, you’re going to get a season-opening look at superstar linebacker Khalil Mack and a Bears team that won the NFC North a year ago under first-year head coach Matt Nagy. Sorry Patriots fans, but you’re going to have to wait to see Tom Brady and company makes their season-opening defense of their most recent Super Bowl title.
Intriguing Rematches on Tap
When the Patriots do take the field in 2019, one of the most interesting games of the season will take place when they square off against a a Kansas City Chiefs team they narrowly got past 37-31 in overtime to claim last season’s AFC Championship title – in controversy I might add as Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City’s high-scoring offense never got the ball in OT. In addition to the AFC Championship rematch, NFL bettors are going to be treated to a rematch of the NFC Championship game between the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints, which, as we all know by now, ended with the Rams getting the 26-23 ‘gift’ win on one of the worst missed pass interference calls in league history.
London, London, London and Via La Mexico!
Forget all about that depressing Brexit news coming out of Britain that not many people really understand, the NFL will be across the pond four times in 2019. Better yet, two of the four games played in London in 2019 will take place at the spanking new home of the Tottenham Hotspurs. The new stadium is a state-of-the-art facility with a retractable roof. Back in 2018, Jaguars owner Shad Khan tried to purchase the stadium before opting to pull out of the deal. Here are the four matchups that will be going down in London in 2019.
- Texans vs. Jaguars
- Bears vs. Raiders
- Panthers vs. Buccaneers
- Bengals vs. Rams
The league had an embarrassing situation on their hands a year ago when the Chiefs vs. Rams matchup schedule for Mexico failed to materialize because of poor conditions at Estadio Azteca, but the league will schedule the Chiefs and Chargers to throw down in an AFC West divisional showdown at Estadio Azteca with Los Angeles being listed as the home team, most likely, a week before Thanksgiving.
