NFL Week 4 game between Steelers and Titans will reschedule
The league canceled Sunday’s Pittsburgh Steelers versus Tennessee Titans game after two more Tennessee coronavirus positives on Thursday. Earlier in the week, the Titans said four players and five team personnel members had tested positive for COVID-19.
The players who tested positive were long snapper Beau Brinkley, practice squad tight-end Tommy Hudson, linebacker Kamaleia Correa, and starting nose tackle DaQuan Jones. Coach Mike Vrabel said that some of the players that tested positive had shown “flu-like symptoms”.
For its part, the National Football League has remained positive. They released a statement saying that for now the Titans’ facility remains closed and the team will have “no further in-person contact”. But the NFL stressed that they would reschedule the game at a later date. That’s a good thing. The NFL plays just 16 games and Steelers-Titans may turn out to be one of the more important matchups for both squads.
Washington has received at least 9,000 nickname suggestions
Washington Commanders new club president Jason Wright said the organization is in no hurry to find a nickname. Wright said he’s received over 9,000 suggestions for the new name. In July, some considered the following as Washington’s new name.
-
- Washington Hogs
- Washington Arlingtons
- Washington Jeffersons
- Washington Monuments
- Washington Kings
- Washington Capitols
- Washington Veterans
- Washington Americans
- Washington Memorials
- Washington Lincolns
- Washington Generals
- Washington Presidents
If you’ve got a name idea, send it to Wright. Why not? If he can handle 9,000, he can probably handle at least 1,000 more.
Jets and Falcons probably won’t fire current head coaches
The New York Jets and Atlanta Falcons will most likely keep their head coaches for the foreseeable future. Jets’ HC Adam Gase is in charge of one of the worst teams in football history. So, if any coach gets canned before Week 8, it’s probably Gase.
How a bad are the 2020 Jets? NYJ is 0-3 SU and ATS. The Jets rank 17th on defense after allowing an average of 372 yards in 3 games. Opponents rush for 133 yards per against the Jets. New York ranks 27th in points allowed. Facing the Jets can get your offense healthy because NYJ gives up over 31 points per game.
The Jets’ offense is worse. It ranks dead last in the NFL with 263 yards per. The Jets average 12.3 points per. NYJ is so bad, they entered their Week 4 Thursday night matchup an underdog against a Denver Broncos squad without Von Miller and who started Brett Rypien at quarterback.
Keeping Atlanta’s Dan Quinn makes some sense. Owner Arthur Blank believes in consistency and Quinn did take the Falcons to the Super Bowl a few years back. More importantly? Quinn’s team lost fourth quarter leads in the last couple of weeks.
If the Falcons can upset the Packers on Monday night, they’d be 1-3 with a ton of division games left. That would give both Dan Quinn and Arthur Blank hope that not only could the Falcons win a few games, but that they could also make the playoffs.
Atlanta averages 30 points per game. If the defense gets it together, and massively improves upon their 36 points per game allowed average, the worst in the NFL, who knows? That’s what Blank is thinking.
The Jets’ owners? No clue why they haven’t had the proverbial hard discussion with Adam Gase. Sam Darnold looks as if he’s ready to quit the league and he’s in his third season. Even though the Jets have said they won’t fire Gase so early in the season, don’t believe it. If Gase continues to destroy the supposed franchise quarterback’s future, that’s Darnold’s future, they’ll send Gase packing before we know it.
Have a great weekend!
