49ers vs Chargers NFL Week 4 Lines & Expert Analysis

Written by on September 27, 2018

The San Francisco 49ers are absolutely reeling after losing franchise quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to a season-ending ACL tear after signing the veteran to a rich, long-term deal in the offseason. Now, the Niners will turn to young quarterback C.J. Beathard as they hope to salvage what now looks like a lost season just three weeks into the 2018 campaign.

After their own uninspiring start, Philip Rivers and the Los Angeles Chargers should be a bit desperate right now to start playing like the Super Bowl contenders that many pegged them as prior to the start of the regular season. Now, with both teams looking to pick up a win in their Week 4 Inter-Conference clash, let’s find out which one is offering the best value against their NFL betting odds.

Why Bet on  the San Francisco 49ers?

Not only did the 49ers lose to Kansas City 38-27 last weekend, but they suffered a damaging blow when Jimmy G left late in the fourth quarter after his left knee buckled during a scramble to the sideline.

“We fear an ACL,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said shortly afterward, before it was revealed that Garoppolo did suffer a tear.

Chiefs linebacker Justin Houston blamed the injury on Garoppolo.

“I think that was his fault,” Houston said. “I pray he’s not hurt, it’s nothing serious, but as a quarterback you should step out of bounds. It’s only an inch. An inch wouldn’t have made a difference. You got the yardage. You need to be smart.”

Frisco gave up three first half TD passes to Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes and a pair of rushing scores to running back Kareem Hunt.

Why Bet on the LA Chargers?

Are the Chargers a safe bet for NFL Week 4?
The Chargers were supposed to be a legitimate Super Bowl contender coming into 2018, but they’ve struggled mightily through three games. The Bolts were on the wrong end of a 35-23 loss against the Rams last week in their ‘Battle of Los Angeles’ matchup.  Quarterback Philip Rivers passed for 226 yards and two touchdowns, but the Chargers gave up three TD passes to Jared Goff in the loss.

“(The Rams) are good in all areas, but I feel like we had a lot of opportunities to make plays,” wide receiver Mike Williams said. “We know the talent that we have in the locker room. We’ve just got to put it on the field.”

The Chargers allowed the Rams to go without a single punt until ther was only 7:38 remaining in regulation.

“We couldn’t get a stop,” safety derwin James said. “We made them punt one time. Offense put up enough points.”

NFL Betting Prediction for 49ers vs Chargers

There’s a reason why a whopping 64 percent of public bettors like the Chargers to win and cover the chalk, even as a 10.5-point double-digit favorite. I know the Bolts have underachieved since the start of the regular season and that they might not be as good as advertised in the preseason, but San Francisco is reeling because of the loss of Garoppolo.

I actually like C.J. beathard and I wanted the Niners to stick with hime before they traded for Jimmy G late last season, but the Bolts are playing at home, they’re completely desperate and have a bunch of talent on the defensive sie of the ball that could make C.j. Beathard’s first start this season, difficult.

The 49ers have gone 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following a straight up loss and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games in the month of September while the Chargers have gone 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a ATS loss, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up loss and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record. Don’t think twice about it. The Bolts wil win and cover!
