Offensive Line Play
While most coaches don’t play many of their starters in the preseason, in today’s pass-happy game there is always an emphasis to help bring an offensive line together as quickly as possible since the o-line, more than any other position, needs to move and play in unison with one another. The best thing I can tell you here is to keep an eye on each team’s offensive line play, even from their backups, and you’ll get a good idea of what to expect once the regular season gets underway.Backup Quarterback Play
In today’s fast-paced, hard-hitting game, it’s almost a rarity for a starting quarterback to make it through an entire 16-game season unscathed, making the backup quarterback position one of extreme importance. Some teams have definite No. 2 backups, but many have battles going on for the backup and third-string position. My best suggestion is to watch those teams without legitimate steady backups as opposed to those teams with established and steady backups. Having steady backup quarterbacks can keep a team stable. You don’t want a team that’s fighting for that spot, like the New York Jets.Picking the 2017 NFL Season Over-Under Win Total for Every Team
Young Players Expected to Contribute
While some more established teams may not be counting on their young players to contribute as much or as quickly as others, the fact of the matter is that a bunch of teams are counting on some of their younger players to step in an contribute and it is those kinds of teams that you’re going to want to keep an eye on. Think about young and rebuilding teams like the Los Angeles Rams or San Francisco 49ers as opposed to a teams like Seattle or New England. This could really benefit if things work out right for these young players. We always see surprises every season, but the more, the better. The Unforeseen Breakout Star
Whether it’s Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott or Chicago Bears running back Jordan Howard, pretty much every team in the league has one ‘unforeseen’ player just waiting to breakout into star or near-star status. If you watch enough preseason football, you’ll notice that each team has at least one or two young players that will make you perk up because of some outstanding play. This might be tough to find wthin your favorite team, but identifying these kinds of potential game-changers can prove to be quite advantageous, particularly once the regular season gets underway.
