2021 NFL Passing Yards, Rushing Yards and Receiving Yards Odds Preview

2021 NFL Season

  • When: Sep. 9, 2021 – Jan. 9, 2022

NFL Odds – Most Passing Yards

  • Patrick Mahomes +500
  • Josh Allen +800
  • Dak Prescott +800
  • Aaron Rodgers +800
  • Matthew Stafford +1000

Mahomes is a decent play, but by backing Kansas City’s star quarterback, we’d be making a couple of assumptions. First, we’re assuming the Chiefs’ new offensive line is as effective as it was last season. Second, we’re assuming that if it is as effective, Andy Reid doesn’t decide to call more run plays.

At the odds, the best pick is Dak Prescott. The Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback, should he come back from the injury he suffered last season one-hundred percent, has a great group of wide receivers in Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb, and Michael Gallup.

Prescott was on his way to leading the NFL in passing yards until an injury derailed his season. He’s the top pick.

The second pick is Matthew Stafford. The Rams have yet to find a running back as effective as Todd Gurley. Not only that, but Stafford will play for Sean McVeigh, who loves to call pass plays.

Top Pick: Dak Prescott

Second Pick: Matthew Stafford

NFL Odds – Most Rushing Yards

  • Derrick Henry +350
  • Dalvin Cook +600
  • Saquon Barkley +800
  • Christian McCaffrey +1000
  • Nick Chubb +1000

Henry rushed for over 2,000 yards last season. He’s a giant of a man, 6’ 3” and 247 pounds. Although he’s the chalk, he’s impossible to go against to lead the league in rushing. Simply put, because of his size, he’s a better play than Dalvin Cook, Saquon Barkley, Christian McCaffrey, or Nick Chubb.

Chubb is an interesting play, but Cleveland likes to split carries between the former Georgia Bulldog and Kareem Hunt. Both had great seasons. Neither should be the Browns’ RB1.

If we don’t choose Barkley, and it’s impossible to back Saquon until he proves he’s past a season-ending injury in 2020, the second pick becomes Christian McCaffrey.

Carolina’s Mr. Do Everything could have an easier time racking up rushing yards than he did in 2019. Quarterback Sam Darnold should relieve some pressure, which should allow McCaffrey more breathing room when he gets the pigskin.

Top Pick: Derrick Henry

Second Pick: Christian McCaffrey

NFL Odds – Most Receiving Yards

  • Stefon Diggs +1200
  • DK Metcalf +1200
  • Tyreek Hill +1200
  • Mike Evans +1200
  • Michael Thomas +1200

The five top choices to receive the most yards this season show the same odds, which makes it look difficult to find a couple of optimal plays. But we can definitely cross off two players.

Mike Evans is a great wide receiver. Bruce Arians loves to lean on the rushing attack. Evans shouldn’t lead the league in receiving yards.

Michael Thomas may not play during the preseason and there’s a question if he will be ready for the start of the regular season. Also, Thomas must catch passes from Jameis Winston or Taysom Hill. Both New Orleans quarterbacks are untested.

Once we cross off Evans and Thomas, we’re left with Diggs, Metcalf and Hill. Tyreek is worth a look. But he plays with tight-end Travis Kelce.

So, between Diggs and Metcalf, which player is the top choice and which is the second choice? Metcalf, Seattle’s wide receiver, is the choice over Diggs.

Who knows what the Seahawks are doing. One thing is for sure, though, once they stopped allowing Russell Wilson to throw as much as he wanted last season, they started losing. Expect Pete Carroll to allow Wilson to throw as much as he wants this season, which should benefit Metcalf.

Top Pick: DK Metcalf

Second Pick: Stefon Diggs
