Why Bet On Chicago at +1?

The Bears were up  on Carolina10-6 at the half but they collapsed in the second half to suffer a humbling 23-13 loss to the Panthers despite the fact that veteran backup Chase Daniel completed a red-hot 11 of 13 passes for 120 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. Third-string signal-caller Tyler Bray completed 8 of 17 passes for 85 yards. Rookie running back Kerrith Whyte Jr. led the Bears with 35 yards on six carries while rookie tight end Ian Bunting added 77 receiving yards on three catches. Defensively, rookie defensive back Clifton Duck had a team-high six tackles while fourth-year linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski had one sack.

Why Bet On The NY Giants at -1?

The Giants recorded a 31-22 win over the cross-town rival New York Jets as backup quarterbacks, Daniel Jones, Alex Tanney and Kyle Lauletta all tossed one TD pass in the encouraging victory. Wide receiver TJ Jones had six catches for 72 yards and one score while veteran wideouts Russell Shepard and Bennie Fowler both added touchdown grabs in the win. Defensively, fourth-year linebacker Jonathan Anderson led the G-Men with five tackles while fifth-year linebacker Terrence Fede added one sack.

Expert Analysis and Prediction for Bears vs Giants

I know the Bears kind of fell apart in the second half against Carolina while New York looked great in their preseason-opening win over the Jets, I’m thinking Chicago is going to dial up their effort in this one to get the big road win. The Bears are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games against their NFC counterparts. Conversely, the Giants are 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 home games.

Still, it’s not the ATS trends that lead me to believe the Bears are the right pick in this one. No, I like Chicago because I’m expecting their backups, particularly on the defensive side of the ball, are going to come out with a greater effort to shut down New York’s trio of young backups once Eli Manning departs after a series or two at best. Last week’s Daniel Jones dominated feel-good story for New York won’t feel so good after Chicago’s defense puts the clamps on the young rookie and his fellow backups quarterbacks in this one!
