Finishing the regular season at or below .500 is usually a sign that the playoffs are not in your future. Sure, there are some teams that sneak in with an 8-8 record, and with the way things are going so far this season, we could well see a team get into the Wild Card with the mark. We are 5 weeks into the season and there are a lot of teams at or below that mark. With two of those teams going head to head this weekend in what is a critical clash.
The Buffalo Bills and the Houston Texans are both at 2-3, which is surprising for very different reasons. It was expected that the Bills would be one of the worst teams in the league this year, so seeing them win 2 games already is a bit of a shock. Likewise, the Texans were considered a serious dark horse pick this season, and while they are underperforming, there are some signs that indicate they might be about to turn a corner. A must win game for both of these teams in Week 6.

Why bet on the Buffalo Bills?
The Bills have been a tough team to figure out this season. They started out their year by getting totally pounded by the Baltimore Ravens. They then followed that up with a game that saw one of their players announce his retirement at half-time, refusing to play the final 30 minutes. This looked like a team in total disarray, yet they have managed to pick up wins against the Minnesota Vikings and the Tennessee Titans, a pair of teams who could very well be playoff bound this season.
The offense is averaging less than 13 PPG this season, but they have been held in games by a defense that has tightened up considerably after their opening week rout. The Bills have not been a good bet on the road winning just 4 of their last 14 and going 8-13-3 ATS in their last 24 road games.
Team Stats
Offense- Average Score For: 12.60
- Total Yards: 221.20
- Rush Yards: 99.40
- Passing Yards: 121.80
- Average Score Against: 23.60
- Total Yards: 330.80
- Rush Yards: 96.20
- Passing Yards: 234.60
Why bet on the Houston Texans?
The Houston Texans opened their season with 3 straight losses, all of which came in games that were close. The average margin of defeat in those 3 games was just 5 PPG, so you always had the sense that they were going to eventually get some wins. That is exactly what they have done, winning back to back games, although sticking true to form by winning close ones. The two wins were both decided by just 3 points.
It goes without saying that this trend has not made them a particularly tasty betting option, especially ATS where they are just 1-9 in their last 10 games. That included being just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games. The UNDER has been a good bet with the Texans, especially against Buffalo where 5 of the last 7 meetings have gone that way.
Team Stats
Offense- Average Score For: 23.00
- Total Yards: 423.40
- Rush Yards: 116.20

- Buffalo is 8-13-3 ATS in its last 24 games on the road
- Buffalo is 2-4 SU in its last 6 games

- Houston is 1-9 ATS in its last 10 games

I have a feeling that the Texans are going to continue to improve as the season progresses and I think they get back to .500 with the win here.
